Great price point for starting married couples!

This was a starter apartment for my wife and I after we got married. For the lower than Manhattan price point, it was a great location (since it was so close to the subway into the city) and a newer building that had very nice design and finishings.

The apartment itself was a typical 550sq ft. NYC apartment with luxurious/new appliances and finishings in the kitchen and bathroom.

The floor is a darker wood and not the typical Manhattan old light wood criss cross which is a nice change for the overall look and feel.

The only two true downsides are that Crescent Street is a very busy street that feeds into the Queensborough Bridge and thus it can get quite loud with car honks throughout the week.

The other downside was the lack of groceries (besides ultra priced high ones). A new Food Cellar & Co. opened up but prices are too high. There aren't enough restaurants and cafes nearby that are clean/recognizable.

The building is still a great apartment, however, and everything still feels pretty modern and new. The swimming pool is a nice addition for those that will truly get use out of it in the warmer months.

Pleasant area! Always something going on or a new place opening up!
Great location that is not too far from school, and near lots of restaurants and shops. Very young and lively area.
Pros- close to the city, safe, a lot of young people. Get more bang for your buck in terms of rent, as opposed to the city.

Cons - not quite like being in the city
Lots of noise, no nearby grocery stores or pharmacies, seedy strip clubs
Astoria has great restaurants and bars, and it's very family-oriented and safe. I live right next to a middle school and a park, and there are always lots of kids around. You get more space for less money, and it's a lot quieter than Manhattan!
I love Astoria! It's nice to be a little removed from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan.
Great food. A couple of cool bars. Not a strong nightlife scene. Safe. Could use a better park.
It’s lovely. Plenty of places to eat and activities to do around the neighborhood. It’s really safe at all times of the day.
