The Netherlands

Apartments are nice, but on the smaller side. Location is not the best but it is less than a mile away from HSB so that is good. Parking is free street parking. Also close to SEPTA station on 40th street which gives access to center city easily. Overall a good spot for the price compared to other 2 bedroom options around the city.

Arguably the best value

I feel like my apartment is a lowkey amazing value for what it is - we have 2 beds and 1 bath with about 1000 square feet for $1500 a month. I technically don't consider my girlfriend to be a roommate since she's not a classmate but that being said, to give perspective, I know some of my classmates who have studio apartments for $1200-1300 and they complain that it can be cramped while we're paying $750 per person for 2 bedrooms, one of which we can use as a bedroom and the other for a full-size office. There's a mailroom where Amazon can securely leave your packages and there's street parking in front of the building as well as all around (there's always parking available next to the Dunkin on Market St!). We have a great grocery store that is less than a 3-minute walk away, plenty of restaurant options within walking distance. Our building is pet-friendly and has an in-unit washer and dryer, something that a lot of the other apartment complexes don't have. Maintenance requests are handled quickly by management and we don't have to deal with parties or other noise complaints from those in our building. The front of the building looks nice and has character. You can also get on our building's rooftop! There's also a great gym (has plenty of machines, free weights, squat/bench racks, and cardio floor) that gives student discounts less than a minute walk away (Fit Gym). There's a lot to be grateful for.

The kitchen is smaller than what I'm used to back home but it's completely useable for someone that cooks most of his meals. This isn't specific to my building and is more of a city thing but since my office window is facing towards Chestnut St (a main road) and has a window AC unit (so reduced noise insulation), you can hear sirens, obnoxious cars with muffler deletes, and people on motorcycles/ATVs. That being said, I'm hardly bothered by it. The unit doesn't have centralized AC so you'll need to pick up a window AC unit which most tenants have. This might just be a city thing or apartment thing but coming from someone who used to live at home up until his masters, leaving my apartment and going around the building to take out the trash is kind of a hassle haha.
