Poorly designed undergraduate building with bad management

The nicest thing about this apartment is that every room has a private bathroom. The bathrooms are all new, clean, and good quality. The kitchen is also a nice size, although the fridge is too small for five people. There is a lot of cabinet space.

The bedrooms are very, very small. The room is as wide as a Full XL bed is long, and just long enough to fit a desk and a chest of drawers right next to each other. One side of the room is half filled by a built in closet, which makes the room much narrower. The apartment comes furnished with very poor quality furniture. The desks are just tables (no drawers), the provided bedside table is a third of the height of the bed and thus unusable, and the paint is unfinished so anything that touches the wall becomes chalky. There's only one vent on the far side of the room so the rooms stay extremely cold in the winter no matter how high the heat is.

This building is highly populated by undergraduate students including a lot of greek life. There are really nice social spaces on the roof, including an outdoor patio, grill space, and a coffee bar, but they're unusable on the weekends because people throw parties and leave a large mess to be cleaned up on by management on Mondays. There is a small gym on the top floor with nice equipment and a nice view over Ann Arbor.

The building feels safe. The lobby doors lock at night and the building is only accessible with an electronic fob. I haven't had trouble with personal safety. However, packages are left unsecured in the lobby hallway during the weekend and the management said there "wasn't anything they could do about it." I wouldn't have anything valuable delivered to the building.

The parking garage is incredibly small. I drive a compact vehicle and have had a lot of trouble with the garage. I had to argue with the management to get my first parking spot reassigned because I was unable to open my car doors far enough to get out of the car, even though everyone was parked within the lines. The parking garage is two levels but the turns onto each level are incredibly tight and have no mirrors so you can't see if anyone is coming from the other direction. Parking is $215 a month, which is more expensive than getting a parking pass at a local parking garage.

The worst part of this building is the management. They took six weeks in August-September to install needed (and promised) window shades in the common room and my roommate's room, both of which have floor to ceiling windows and receive direct sunlight. They told me there was nothing they could do when they double charged me for parking. They offered a lease incentive of a $1,000 visa gift card to decrease our overall rent, but there is a $50 'convenience fee' to use the gift card to pay the rent. Overall, my interactions with the management have been extremely poor. They've been dismissive and disrespectful every time I go to the office to discuss issues, and seem to not know how to run an apartment building.
