River's Edge

I hope this review helps out other students looking for a place to live. My husband and I just started renting our apartment in July 2023, and this was the first time either of us had ever rented. Therefore, we do not have any prior experience for reference to compare this apartment to other apartments. However, this was the best rent for the square footage we got for this apartment. Our unit particularly came with new carpets, but that was a bit unique. The apartment was very clean and well maintained, for the most part, when we got it, but the previous tenants also cared really well for the apartment.

There were a few sort of minor things about the apartment that were/are not perfect, such as the dryer has never dried clothes in one cycle, requiring multiple cycles to dry.

The apartment comes with a security system by the front door that is easy to use (I believe 1st floor units also have sensors by the windows but I am unsure). It was not working when we moved in, but they quickly called the company in to fix it and show us how to work it. The area is not known for its safety, having a bit of a reputation for having some crime around it (there is a still-working shop a little down the street with barred windows and door that is evidence of the area's past reputation); however, the area is improving gradually and greatly we would like to think. It has come a long way already, otherwise we would not want to live here. The apartment complex is quite well-maintained with lots of greenery and trees, making it beautiful and a lovely place to come home to, so you would never know by looking at our community that this region was not considered the safest. The front door only has one lock though, which makes me a little apprehensive, but we have had no issues thus far. Also, any other tenants we have met so far have been kind.

Apartments are inspected for adherence to the community's guidelines on a regular basis, and they bring in insect control on an occasional basis too in order to inspect for any little critters and ensure the apartment is chemically treated (safe to people and pets, vacating unit not necessary) just to maintain cleanliness. This is all in the leasing contract, which is important to read word for word in order to know what to expect. They always leave notices at your door though to let you know ahead of time when they will need to visit your unit.

In conclusion, we love our apartment and have a great time hosting our friends over when we have the time. It has been a great experience thus far. Our families were concerned about us moving to the area at first, but we fell in love with the unit and decided the area was safe enough for cautious, careful individuals. I also will note that plenty of retired folks and families with kids live in the community. The community, in fact, has a playground, and oftentimes you will hear and see kids out playing. The community is also very pet-friendly and has lots of dogs. So, in my mind, anywhere you see and hear kids out playing on the sidewalk or at a playground cannot be too bad honestly. We have been pretty safe thus far.
