Metropolitan Review

The aparments are newly renovated, and rent is great relative to the city. The location is about half a mile from the metro station and grocery store. Maintenance has a really fast response time. The managers are really nice too, and know everybody. The building is also pet friendly, and there’s even a dog park.

Fine

I have enjoyed living in this apartment, and the amenities of the building and the upgraded apartments make the higher rent somewhat reasonable. Overall for the area, I think the rent costs is high, but the building is

The neighborhood is pretty walkable. We’re close to a library, a a Giant grocery store, and the metro station. We’re pretty close to some good restaurants and breweries.
It's a combination family neighborhood with lots of college students in the area. There's always something going on and there's a farmers market every Saturday.
Great Area
Neighborhood is pretty safe. Not much to do in the immediate area though. Brookland-CUA area Starbucks and restaurants and some bars are a 15-25 minute walk away. Trinity center is a 5 minute walk away where you can find subway, Mediterranean food, a deli, and a pharmacy.
There is no grocery store within walking distance. I take the bus or bike over to Columbia Heights to do a lot of my shopping. The deli within walking distance has terrible food and is kind of expensive. The Pakistani place however has amazing grub, but can get kind of pricey. Catholic University's library is across the street which you can apparently use if you're a student. There is no common space/lounge areas at The Cloisters.
The neighborhood is calm. Not many groceries stores around.
Homey, artsy, quiet, close to everything
Brookland is a gentrifying area, there are a few good bars and places to eat, although it obviously doesn't compare to Dupont Circle or Columbia Heights (the neighborhoods I lived in before). However, being on the red line, it's very easy to take hop on and get to wherever you want to go, although there are plenty of options to go out to if you just want to have dinner or some drinks. (Notable favorites are the Dew Drop Inn, Brookland Pint, Steel Plate, and Right Proper Brewing Company).

It's obviously a great place to live if you are a Catholic University student, although there isn't much of a college atmosphere here, so you barely notice it if you are just a resident. The Brookland Arts Walk is nice, and there is a farmers market there during the warmer months on Saturday mornings.... Again, it can't compare to DuPont's farmers market, but it's still nice.

Overall, the best part of living in Brookland is what you get for your money. You could live in a very small studio in DuPont or Georgetown for more than the cost of a large one bedroom in Brookland.
