Great apartment

I've been staying with Willard for about four months now. I love the location it's only an 8-min walk to the metro. People are very friendly here, and we have a shuttle service every day except on Sundays. The management team sends out welcome letters to people when they first move in. The front desk people are always friendly and helpful. The rooftop pool is definitely a plus!!! Everything is renovated and our gym is stunning too.

4701 is sometimes great and sometimes not

I love my apartment because it is the most spacious I have found in the area. It has updated kitchen, etc. which was also a must. Laundry is terrible - it is per floor and the machines frequently break, are small, are full, or some other issue. Management is hit or miss - they responded to our several mice incidents quickly...but when they hit us with a 15% rent increase after the first year, they were not as quick to respond to our complaints. Safety is good, but there was just an incident in our parking garage where the attendant was held up at gunpoint. They have since added security measures (you need to use a key fob to enter). Good location to shopping and Whole Foods, helpful when the shuttle runs from the building but otherwise an 8 minute walk. They were great with snow removal on the sidewalks. Building is VERY diverse in age as well as cultures. There are people who have been living in the building for 50 years and people with babies and college students from AU...really a mix. Pool and roof is very nice in the summer - but keep in mind it is only open for 3 months! Grills are great - so far I have always had to compete with someone to get a spot but people are fairly good about sharing.

Willard ave

I like that this apartment is a walkable distance to the redline. I love the recently renovated rooftop and gym. Our apartment has a huge living room and decent sized bedrooms. I love my floor to ceiling Windows. The only downside to this apartment is that Willard avenue is a noisy street, and I can keep dump trucks and the garage truck at 6am.

Just ok

I have mixed emotions about 4701 Willard. Good location for a decent price...until rent increased by 15% in a year. Not the most social place to live if you're in your 20s, but it may be improving since the renovations kicked all the retired people out (seriously). We have had rodent problems, which is not fun. Not terrible, but not amazing. There are limited perfect options in the DC metro area so I think this is pretty average.

Inflated price, but spacious

Our rent was raised 15% from the year before, which really left a sour taste in our mouth. Otherwise, the amount of space we get is very nice compared to many tiny dc buildings. We've also had a lot of trouble with mice, broken heating/cooling systems, etc. There was significant construction in the past two years and now that is over, the space looks much nicer.

Overall good

I'm happy living at the Willard. I think it's definitely one of the most modern looking rooftops that they have. They just repainted everything, and the pool is amazing! It has a great location, restaurants and shopping are just steps away. Overall, I like living here a lot.

Overall, pretty nice

I just moved to Willard about half a year ago, and I absolutely love their amenities. They just redid their pool and lobby and gym, and they look fantastic. Super modern looking and super friendly people. The rooms are not renovated, but they are not bad at all. Very big rooms and their kitchens have nice grills even!

Great amenities

Willard definitely has the best amenities among all apartments I have ever stayed at. When I first went to visit Willard, I found their lobby and rooftop very modern looking and new. Their rooms are quiet big, but they are a little bit old if you like modern interior. But overall, I think Willard is a great choice. It's super close to the metro too

The Willard

I've been living here for a bout half a year, I think Willard is a pretty nice apartment. Amenities are amazing, big pool, tennis court and chess ground. Everything in the lobby area is new, the gym looks super awesome, but the rooms are little bit small and old.

Willard Apartment

Lived here for nearly half a year. Great pool and fitness center, friendly people to live next to. management is very friendly and takes care of residents and fixes problems quickly. only negative aspect is that from time to time, construction noise tends to get loud.

Getting around Friendship Village

Friendship Village Reviews

7 reviews
The area the apartment is in is quiet and nice. There aren’t many noise issues, and I have never felt unsafe walking around the neighborhood. Friendship Heights is only about a 15-20 minute bike ride from AU or about a 40 minute walk through the northwest DC neighborhoods. I am very close to Whole Foods for convenient grocery shopping, and Trader Joe’s and Target are just up the street in Bethesda. For entertainment and outings, getting anywhere in DC from Friendship Heights is rather easy. The metro is only about 2 blocks from the apartment complex, and the bus station is just across the street. If you have a car or take an Uber, you can be pretty much anywhere you need to be within 20 minutes.
Very close to lots of shopping and easy access to red line. It seems like a safe area. The stores and grocery all seem like they are geared to the upper class (in price and offerings). Good for me working in Rockville but still wanting to go be with the younger DC crowd on the weekends. Definitely a very diverse area, lots of international residents/diplomats working in DC in this area.
Friendship height feels safe and a great place to shop.
Its easy to get around without a car. Although it is missing bars and pubs, its a great place to shop for groceries at Giants or Whole Foods or clothing and home decor.
Friendship Village feels very safe and is pretty walkable. While the demographic is getting younger, the neighborhood seems to be largely made up of older adults. The restaurants in the area are generally pretty good and the closeness to the metro makes it easy to head to Bethesda for even more dining and shopping options. The metro also makes it really easy to get to school since Tenleytown is only one stop away.
Love the safety and convenience of this neighboorhood - the free shuttle service is awesome. Grocery stores and pharmacies nearby, and lots of shopping. However, not much personality beyond that. Could you some 'hole in the wall' kind of ethnic restaurants (but on the other hand, Bethesda just down the road has some of that). It's a comfortable in between neighboorhood connecting Bethesda and DC.
If you have some cash, really good to go shopping here! Metro is red line and very convenient. Whole foods is my favorite place but if you want a more economical grocery, the Safeway and Giant are kind of gross. Lack of street parking is an issue - I wouldn't drive here unless you want to pay for a garage.
Pro- nice looking houses along the street, walking distance to the metro, safe.
Cons- noisy in the morning (can hear trucks at 6am) and aggressive drivers
