Great value and great management

Management team is responsive and friendly. Location is a bit further east than many builldings but good food options nearby. Great value for the space!

Great apartment building if you don't need a doorman

Loved this apartment building. Only problem is that there is no doorman. Therefore, a package that I received was stolen inside the building.

Great value

While 1600 Chestnut is located a bit further east than other options, I think it's a great value for the money. I pay less than $1600 per month and have a one bedroom loft. Although there is no doorman, we have a small fitness center on the fifth floor and free shared laundry on every floor except for the fifth floor (where the gym is located).

I have found management to be very responsive to each concern I have had. They are great: they perform nice little random acts of kindness that brighten my day (i.e. goody bags on Thanksgiving, hosting happy hours and a couple weeks back even had free coffee and snacks in the lobby).

The building has fewer Wharton students than most, but I would say the overall vibe is grad student (a handful of law and med school folks) and young professional.

On the whole, very happy. I only wish the location were closer to school.

I love 1600 Chestnut

Location, although a little further out from campus but it's easy to walk to bus station or trolley station. A lot of place to shop and close to China town!! Whatever mode you choose, it will never take longer than 30 mins from door to door. (Apt to Huntsman Hall). Other great features: Hardwood floors, high ceilings, and its very low profile building so it is super safe!
My room is a loft room so I have my bed on the loft floor.
The room is great. Free laundry+utility and gym. The electric bill is super cheap compares to other building. It will be quite cold during winter because the A/C isn't that effective but it's still very good.
I love the place. Maybe you can find cheaper places but this place is definitely worth the price.

Comfy studio in convenient location and good value for money (no doorman though)

Building was renovated recently, there is a laundry and TV room with wi-fi access in each floor. One small gym for the building. Even though cable and Internet are not included in rent, the building is Comcast ready (which makes it much easier to install it on your own). I am very happy with my unit and believe it is good value for money. Location is convenient and apartment is new with hardwood floors. The only down side to this building is that it doesn't have a doorman, which can be inconvenient, but you can ship packets to Pearl Properties' office and pick it up during business hours.

I took this apartment from a graduating 2nd year last year and have loved it.

1600 Chestnut is a loft format with really high ceilings and big windows. No washer and dryer in apartment but their is a free laundry room on each floor. Also, there is a gym and location for package pickup.

Walnut street is very safe - there's always people around and it's well lit. The neighborhood includes all of the fun aspects of living in Philadelphia - tons of access to food and bars, nearby grocery stores/markets, access to the parks and the Schuylkill River Trail
Very close to fun restaurants/bars/shops. Close to the subway as well as the train station (suburban station).
Rittenhouse is the safest part of Philly. It's a very "happening" part of town—lots of restaurants and bars on every street. At the same time, it's right next to more residential neighborhoods to walk around in and explore. It's a great place to live relatively close to the law school but with a degree of separation so as not to get trapped in the law school bubble.
The neighborhood is both quiet and lively. There is so much around, but I have never had an issue sleeping or studying because there is too much noise. The broad street line is a 10-15 minute walk away and we are close to shopping, food, the park, and the river trail. Has everything within a 10-15 walk.
This neighborhood has everything I need within walking distance. Shops, grocery stores, parks, the subway and trolley, post office. You name it. It's very safe and extremely quiet, which helps when I'm trying to study. The Rittenhouse Square area is really the best place to live in Philly if you don't mind paying a little more.
I love this neighborhood and knew I wanted to live here when beginning my apartment search. The park is one of my favorite places in the city, and I love being able to easily access all the restaurants and shopping nearby. It's also an easy (~20 minute) walk to Penn Law, and the walking commute has always been a nice and peaceful part of my day.

Spruce Street in particular is great - it's a little south of the square, so is quieter/shielded from a lot of the traffic that the neighborhood gets, but it's not out of the way or far away. There's a Starbucks, a grocery store (Rittenhouse Market), and a few corner stores (Four Seasons and Food & Friends) within a 2-3 minute walk of my apartment.
Love the neighborhood, Rittenhouse Square is beautiful and we are so close to the more commercial areas like Walnut Street while not being in the center of the craziness. Plus we are within walking distance of public transportation including 10 minutes from the 15/16 street PATCO station. I personally think it is one of the best areas of Philly to live in.
Rittenhouse Square has a park in the center surrounded by a bookstores, restaurants, and a public library. It is open to pets and often has open art / food markets on the weekends. It is close to the Broad Street Line and PATCO. There are many families who live in the area. It is affordable compared to other major cities (NYC, DC, Boston), but there are certainly more affordable areas in Philadelphia, simply without the luxury of being so close to Center City.
