The Sansom reviews and highlights

  • Front desk people are very nice and responsive
  • Not really a great "value", but in my opinion it is an excellent price for the quality
  • Maintenance has been pretty responsive and the property owners are friendly
  • Good building that's only a couple years old
  • TV/Wi-Fi lounge is nice and it has a small outdoor patio
  • Brand new building
  • All the appliances are new
  • Amenities are new and very well taken care of
  • Units have loft-style features and the building's clean
  • Only downside to the apartments facing Ionic Street (the back alley) is the noise from the trash trucks
  • The walls are thin and you may hear your neighbors
  • One bedrooms are really spacious
  • Gym is nice, but pretty small
  • Love having the washer and dryer in the apartment
  • Staff is incredibly friendly
  • Fantastic location

Unbeatable location

Just two blocks from Rittenhouse Square and surrounded by Philly’s best stores abs restaurants, this apartment offers great value for the price. Natural lighting could be better, and it can be easy to hear neighbors, but the unit is very comfortable. Management has also been pleasant to deal with.

A place with little Wharton presence

I liked my place because it was reasonably priced for a 1 bedroom. The downside was not many Wharton people living in the building (which could also be good if you need a break at night). It's located closer to the city hall. However, it's easy to take buses to the campus. Walking is fine. Not much amenity other than a gym, which is often very quiet.

2 bedroom Sansom Experience

Good experience overall. Minor maintenance issues were addressed quickly. Not much as far as amenities go.

Underrated gem near Rittenhouse Square

I've really enjoyed my time at the Sansom and feel like it is underrated for the value it presents. Overall, highly recommend though there are not as many Wharton students living there.

Pros:

- Good value - reasonable rents for the location (2 blocks from Rittenhouse Square, situated close to a lot of restaurants)

- Clean and well-maintained - lobby area and common areas are kept very clean and maintenance requests are promptly addressed

- Friendly staff - all the staff are super friendly and accomodating (helpful with packages, questions, moving, etc)

- Spacious living area (see below) with pretty good natural light/lots of windows

Cons:

- For Wharton students, about 35 mins to campus (which is 10 mins longer than some of the closer properties)

- Bedrooms are a little small and some have structural beams going through the space in an awkward way. Have a walkthrough and understand if it's something you can live with - I've found it doesn't impede my use of the space at all.

- Electric lighting can be dim after the sun goes down

An overlooked place for Wharton students

I love my apartment - lots of light, lots of space. I haven't been able to find a one-bedroom unit with this much space and at this price point anywhere else in Philly, and the units are all new - so in-unit laundry, modern amenities, etc. It is also super close to Rittenhouse Sq, so walking to all the meetups is also not an issue.

Great apartments, okay building

Apartments are great. Good appliances, good layouts, cheaper than apartments close to the river. High ceilings. Location is close to the action but a little loud. Building is a low rise so no real views -- many apartments either look at parking garage or back alley. Walls between apartments are VERY thin.

There's a small gym and patio for the building use. Inconsistent front desk staffing. Management was great at responding to issues in the apartment though (e.g., sink fixes).

Great apartment

The building and its units are new and spacious. The high ceiling is a characteristic I personally cherish as well.

The units on high floor and facing South have amazing lighting.

The building has a gym and a small terrace. They are both decent, but not really impressive.

Rittenhouse Square Reviews

Walnut street is very safe - there's always people around and it's well lit. The neighborhood includes all of the fun aspects of living in Philadelphia - tons of access to food and bars, nearby grocery stores/markets, access to the parks and the Schuylkill River Trail
Very close to fun restaurants/bars/shops. Close to the subway as well as the train station (suburban station).
Rittenhouse is the safest part of Philly. It's a very "happening" part of town—lots of restaurants and bars on every street. At the same time, it's right next to more residential neighborhoods to walk around in and explore. It's a great place to live relatively close to the law school but with a degree of separation so as not to get trapped in the law school bubble.
The neighborhood is both quiet and lively. There is so much around, but I have never had an issue sleeping or studying because there is too much noise. The broad street line is a 10-15 minute walk away and we are close to shopping, food, the park, and the river trail. Has everything within a 10-15 walk.
This neighborhood has everything I need within walking distance. Shops, grocery stores, parks, the subway and trolley, post office. You name it. It's very safe and extremely quiet, which helps when I'm trying to study. The Rittenhouse Square area is really the best place to live in Philly if you don't mind paying a little more.
I love this neighborhood and knew I wanted to live here when beginning my apartment search. The park is one of my favorite places in the city, and I love being able to easily access all the restaurants and shopping nearby. It's also an easy (~20 minute) walk to Penn Law, and the walking commute has always been a nice and peaceful part of my day.

Spruce Street in particular is great - it's a little south of the square, so is quieter/shielded from a lot of the traffic that the neighborhood gets, but it's not out of the way or far away. There's a Starbucks, a grocery store (Rittenhouse Market), and a few corner stores (Four Seasons and Food & Friends) within a 2-3 minute walk of my apartment.
Love the neighborhood, Rittenhouse Square is beautiful and we are so close to the more commercial areas like Walnut Street while not being in the center of the craziness. Plus we are within walking distance of public transportation including 10 minutes from the 15/16 street PATCO station. I personally think it is one of the best areas of Philly to live in.
Rittenhouse Square has a park in the center surrounded by a bookstores, restaurants, and a public library. It is open to pets and often has open art / food markets on the weekends. It is close to the Broad Street Line and PATCO. There are many families who live in the area. It is affordable compared to other major cities (NYC, DC, Boston), but there are certainly more affordable areas in Philadelphia, simply without the luxury of being so close to Center City.
