Munger Graduate Residences reviews and highlights
- best in-house amenities
- most bedrooms don't have windows
- brand new building with fully upgraded appliances
- everyone gets their own bathroom
- spacious living area
- best place to live in terms of value
- centrally located
Amazing value!
Munger is a great place to live. It is fully furnished and has all the amenities that you could possible want/need! The only drawback is that almost everyone gets a room without a window. Also, its proximity to Ross - a 7 min walk - is perfect, especially during winter months.

No Windows
I signed my lease from Munger before I moved from California. I enjoyed living with students from other schools and the study spaces are beautiful, but they are not open about the fact that there are not windows in the bedrooms. This makes waking up difficult if you don't buy a sunrise alarm clock. Also, if you ever want to be alone, you need to do so in a cave--the only places with windows are in common areas. Management is also very difficult to deal with. I spoke to them multiple times about mailing my things to the building the day before I moved in, which they confirmed was okay. When I got there, they had sent the packages back because I was not yet officially a resident. Also, there is a thermostat, but it is common knowledge at Munger that this does not control anything and every room is hot, with no airflow.

No Windows is a big problem
Munger is an ideal place to live in. It has everything you need, location, facilities, etc. except there is no windows in your bedroom. It can be a huge problem for people to live in because normally people would feel very uncomfortable living in a room without windows, and you don't even have a safe place to recover yourself when you feel down.
The idea of making people more social is good but it's not working. From my experience, most of the time we are too busy to sit down and talk in the living room. Given that there is no window in the bedroom, my suite really becomes just a place for me to lie at nights.

Best All-in Option, Closest to Ross
Are there cheaper places closer or as close to Ross School of Business? Yes.
But is there a new building (2-3 years old) with a gym and outdoor running track all-inclusive this close to Ross? Nope.
Having building controlled heat/cooling is definitely not ideal and living with 5-6 other grad students may not be your ideal option (weigh this heavily). I happened to luck out with 6 complete strangers and a wonderful living situation...
Also, coming from a Californian, you get used to not having natural light in your personal room as the common areas have large windows. Sounds unbearable but it's AMAZING for mid-day naps.

Great amenities, roommates are hard to control
The Munger facility is amazing and beautiful, and my room is great! You can't pick your roommates, which can be great because of the opportunity to meet new people across grad schools, but can be difficult if living styles don't match (as in my case).

New and modern but lots of roommates
Munger is a really incredible place to live. The building is brand new and al of the appliances/furnishings are very well done. They have definitely put pretty much everything you could want in here. There is a gym, convenience store, computer centers, UM printing, and tons of study space. It is also very close to Ross and a great value considering the Ann Arbor housing market. There are a few downsides, however. The apartments have 6-7 bedrooms (and each has it's own bathroom) which is great when you want to socialize but also a challenge if you need quiet. There is also no parking associated with the building which can be a pain if you have a car. Lastly, most of the rooms are internal and have no windows.

Great grad housing facility
Munger started out as a transdisciplinary housing initiative, but over last year, it has become just another grad dorm. You will live in apartments with 5 or 6 other room-mates, and the living situation will be what you make it to be.
The common areas are spacious, bright, and well appointed, but the bedroom is just about the right size. However, the deal-breaker for many is the lack of windows in the bedrooms (in about 80% of the bedrooms). If that is a concern, stay away.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed my stay here - it is centrally located and near everything that I could possibly want. The large common areas in the basement and 8th floor are a boon for exam prep and assignments. The gym on the 8th floor also has an outdoor running track.

Great if you get used to no windows
I have really enjoyed the trans-disciplinary life at Munger as it helped me break out of the business school bubble. It is also a very convenient housing option with all furnishings, facilities and a great location.
