Decent living space

Management is consistent, repairs are quick, the community is nice. A little far from the law school, but probably worthwhile considering the typical options closer. Maybe a little pricey, but no traps.

Great space for the money!

Woodbury Gardens is a fairly large community with apartments and townhomes to rent. They also have a gym, a clubhouse with a pool table, foosball, conference rooms, etc., a pool, a dog park, a gym, a community shuttle to central campus, and lots of parking. It's about a 7-10 minute drive to campus, otherwise a 30min walk or a city bus ride (unsure of timing).

My unit itself (an upgraded townhome) is also great and you can tell they maintain the units regularly. The building itself is older but you really can't tell due to their maintenance and upkeep. Maintenance is also pretty quick on the two requests I've made so far. I moved from a space where outside maintenance on windows and walls did not happen, and it severely affected the windows, leading to a lot of water leakage. HERE, when we moved the paint job was new, new carpeting, and new windows! There is also a lot of closet and storage space. The office team is also super responsive and kind - which is a complete turnaround to what I had before as well. It's a quiet space overall and the community is made up of families and students.

They have a bunch of different floor plans for anything you're really looking for. Living in a 3bed 2.5 bath townhome allows my fiance and I to each have our own office, as well as living space to spread out in. Also variable: we have our own washer and dryer in unit, but some apartments may not have that (it would be shared with the building to my knowledge). Here we also pay for all of the utilities: water, gas, electric, internet, trash. Paying for water and trash is new for us (we've been renting throughout Ann Arbor for 5 years now) but trash is $8/mo and water is split between all of the residents at about $40-$50/mo/per resident from what we've been told (haven't had a water bill yet since we pre-paid at move-in). It does cost a little more, but you can also sign for a longer lease to prevent rent increases every year which actually made this place cheaper than our last.

Quiet, Clean Standard Apartment

Nice, quiet apartment complex slightly outside of the campus area. We haven’t had many issues with the apartment, probably in part because we paid a little extra in rent for a recently renovated unit with washer/dryer. But for the few small things we’ve needed fixed, maintenance has been incredibly responsive. Management does some fun things to make it feel more neighborhood-y for those want it, like bringing in a food truck every week or two and offering free breakfast at the clubhouse every weekday morning. If you want to live away from undergrad chaos, this is a great place to consider.

Woodbury Gardens Review

Overall, my experience at WG has been positive. Since August 2020, there has been new management who has responded quicker to concerns. Rent is not cheap at Woodbury, but there are added benefits of being close to Ross, but not directly across campus.

WG has a more mature crowd (grad students, families, working-age adults), which may appeal to a certain demographic. The dog park is great, there is a pool in the warmer months, and also there is a shuttle bus that runs daily (M-F) between WG and Ross/Downtown + a weekly grocery run to a super market for those who do not have a vehicle.

Lovely and spacious townhome (and community)

This is a 2-story townhome plus a basement. Areas such as bedrooms, kitchen, living room, dining area, etc. are generally larger than a typical 2 bed apartment. The basement is great for storage or for transforming it into whatever you need. We use it as a playground for our 2 yr old son. The Woodbury community is really spacious with plenty of green areas for walking or just hanging around. Location is perfect because is just outside of downtown noise, but close enough for 7-8 minute commute.

Nothing special but still a great choice.

Being at Woodbury ended up being a blessing in disguise. At first, I was upset that I was so far from campus (30-40 min walk), but because of the pandemic it didn't matter. Instead, I got the benefit of not living downtown and having a lot of green space to walk around, hang out socially distant, and play with my dog.

We didn't have a car when we first moved here and that was annoying. We used uber and zip cars, and while you can get away without having a car, your life will be improved with a car .

Getting around Yost

Yost Reviews

The neighborhood is great - definitely more quiet than living closer to campus, but still very easy to get around. It's about a 25 minute walk to Michigan Central Campus, but only about a 5 minute drive. Ubers and Lyfts are easy to come by, otherwise the Woodbury Shuttle and The Ride bus are pretty convenient and reliable during the week.

We signed our lease in February before starting at Ross in August.
An underrated fact about Woodbury is its proximity to Lucky's Market and a CVS on the corner. I have a car, and appreciate the relative closeness to other areas of Ann Arbor to be able to run a quick errand. If you want a quieter neighborhood and don't need to be in the center of the social life at Ross, this is the place for you.
The neighborhood is not as lively or trendy as the downtown area, but it has everything we need in walking distance, including the best coffee stop in Ann Arbor, Roos Roast, a neat grocery store with $2 pints of beer, and a diner Michael Phelps used to frequent, which is perfect for any hungover breakfasts you may experience. It is a quiet and family and pet friendly neighborhood.
The neighborhood is very nice and feels very safe. There is a park very close by which is really nice, and the area is within a 10 minute walk to the stadium which is great. There are many people walking around with dogs in the area, and most people that live there are couples or families
Safe place close to stores. It's a little far from Ross (1.1 miles) or 30 minute walk. Great place to live, good for partners not in school because there are few undergrads in the area.
Woodbury Gardens is its own community - so we don't get a lot of surrounding neighborhood effect and it's quieter.

I haven't had to go to school in person yet (due to the pandemic) - but once things are back in person, I would use the community shuttle to get to campus and possibly back depending on the time of day I head back. Otherwise, I would take the bus or walk. Walking takes about 30 min but the bus will cut down most of that since there is a city stop right at the entrance to Woodbury.
great neighborhood! very close to the gym and lots of sidewalks for easy pet-walking
A little further away from nightlife, but that makes it more peaceful to live here. Groceries and some restaurants are accessible. Lots of great coffee shops in walking distance.
