Woodbury Gardens reviews and highlights
- best combination of price, amenities, and location
- great neighborhood
- lots of green space, which is great for walking dogs
- serene and removed from noise
- clean and the maintenance team is very responsive
Good Value, but some things to be improved.
Woodbury is a great neighborhood for students with pets, a partner, and/or family. The apartments have great value given the amount of space you receive for what you pay. A downside which may be taken up with the local utility DTE, is the power seems to go out more frequently than other neighborhoods. I am able to take 4 different buses to get to Ross, in addition to free/cheap parking options.

Great but overpriced.
The unit is very nice. Maintenance is generally very quick and accommodating. Rent is just crazy though. This is true of all of Ann Arbor. Students HAVE to be here for school so landlords can prey on them by charging outrageous prices. Rent and housing prices nation wide have skyrocketed due to poor zoning from administrators, greedy landlords and land owners, etc. But Ann arbor is ridiculous. Housing prices are relatively equivalent to Chicago...a major city in the country. That is simply unrealistic. Woodbury apartments as well as every other landlord in the city preys on students every time they collect the rent.

Great Community
There are a lot of MBA students, especially with family. I am not sure if Woodbury is best in terms of locations, etc. But the community is definitely a benefit of living here.

Cheap(er), quiet, old
Woodbury has lots of grad students and is quiet (you won't be woken up by the train on Main Street, there aren't loud apartment parties here, it's on quiet dead end streets).
It is a couple hundred dollars cheaper and more spacious than the "luxury" high rise options on Main Street, but still far more expensive than what someone should reasonably be paying for a 50 year old "meh" apartment in Michigan.
Management is not great. There is a high volume of non-violent theft (people's cars being broken into at night--it's really dark out here and the street/parking lot lights are frequently broken and no one bothers to fix them). But it is definitely safe to walk around here.
It is nice to be around so many other MBA students here, though. I've made lots of friends at Woodbury!
It is what it is. Ann Arbor doesn't have great student housing options in general. Pick your poison. Woodbury tends to be a decent choice for couples (because more space) and people who are a bit more price conscious.

It's fine
It's an old building and there's been a few issues with maintenance, but they eventually get resolved. It's a great option if you want to live alone on a budget. Jeff, the shuttle bus diver, is an absolute gem.

It's Something
The Good: Super spacious (especially if you're coming from a city where the apartments are generally smaller), great for pets, very quiet if you're on the top floor. Close to some cute cafes and to the Big House. Maintenance has been quite quick for me.
The Bad: The gym provided isn't as grand as I expected. The Pelotons are run down and breaking. The shuttle doesn't run that often, I find myself taking the city bus to get back to Woodbury more. "Breakfast provided" is literally granola bars, fruit cups, yogurt cup. Don't expect a hot breakfast.
The Ugly: DTE has had quite a few issues here (at Woodbury) that my friends at other complexes have not experienced. Lost power for 2 days in 90+ degree heat in August, lost power again in October, the street lamps aren't working for weeks. Lastly - paying for laundry here is robbery! To run a load in the washer + dryer is $4.25.

Great for couples
Good value for money - price is significantly lower than the Yard / 618. It is a little further away from Ross (~27 min walk), but the city buss is very convenient (routes 6 /24)

Great Place
Woodbury is a great place to live while at Ross. It is a safe, family-friendly environment that is within walking distance to Ross (about a 25-30 minute walk). Highly recommend.

I haven't had to go to school in person yet (due to the pandemic) - but once things are back in person, I would use the community shuttle to get to campus and possibly back depending on the time of day I head back. Otherwise, I would take the bus or walk. Walking takes about 30 min but the bus will cut down most of that since there is a city stop right at the entrance to Woodbury.
