Nice, but expensive

I have been living here for a few months, and it has been pretty pleasant. Management is somewhat available through text, and your packages are secure. The entire building, in general, is pretty clean, and you will often see the janitorial staff during the midday.

Regarding transportation, it will take about 20-30 minutes to get to HUCM if you drive and 30-35 minutes for the metro (you must transfer from the red line to the green line). There is a parking garage with multiple floors that you can also use.

This is a lovely property regarding location and amenities, but you must be willing to spend quite a penny. However, if you like being close to the metro and in a city away from the city, this is an excellent place to live. For studying, it is relatively quiet (the walls have steel between them because of the train), and there are two conference rooms that you can choose from. In terms of the apartment itself, it is somewhat updated with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and wood floors.

Also, maintenance gets back to you pretty quickly and ensures you have a working phone since almost everything is controlled through that (parking, apartment, maintenance requests, paying rent, etc.).

Nonetheless, if guests visit or stay overnight, the garage parking is pretty pricey, and the garage next door is $1/hr. Thus, there is virtually no free parking as street parking also requires payment.

It was a nice place before Covid

This building has declined on everything. Administration does not send emails for updates on broken elevators; garage doors; parking cameras out-of-service; marihuana odor coming through your apartment vents; and list goes on.

2023 one year increased rent was 10% and for two years 20%. Very different before pandemic. UDR Headquarters are MIA. They are clueless or don't care about Eleven55 tenants.

New buildings in the area have better amenities for a cheaper rent. The only good thing about this building is its location. Besides that, I wont rent again. My feelings about THESE PEOPLE is equal to a rotten tomatoes movie ratings.

Security: none, Silver Spring crime rate has increased. It is better to live in Northeast Washington DC or close to Naval area.

Spacious Apartment without Problems

I haven't had any issues with this property. Management is nice and maintenance has been timely. Very close to Metro/construction across the street so can be fairly noisy throughout the day.

Loved my time here

Great time there, good staff. They’re not sympathetic to Howard giving students their financial aid late though so last January I was pretty close to being evicted. Other than that it’s a great place to live

Great Building, Awesome Location

Eleven55 is a beautiful building with a perfect location. It is right next to the Silver Spring Metro and bus station if you need to go anywhere else like downtown DC. If you want to stay in Silver Spring, there are 3 grocery stores walking distance.

Getting around Silver Spring

Silver Spring Reviews

66 reviews
Slower pace, smaller and safer than DC, but has all the same offerings. Ethnic restaurants, shopping, nightlife, nature trails, public transit, farmers market. Very diverse, aesthetically pleasing and walkable.
There is a ton to do in downtown Silver Spring. The Veterans plaza area has great restaurants and bars. The farmers market on Saturdays is huge, and my favorite part of the weekend. Lots of young couples, and families.
I lived in silver spring since undergrad and have no complaints. Front desk does good job of not letting random people into building. You need key fob to access most areas of building so feels very safe
There is a lot of green space, and the walk to the Metro station is really nice. It's quiet, which we really like.
Right in the heart of DTSS so a lot to do and a lot of great restaurants.
It's only a five minute walk to the red line metro stop in downtown Silver Spring (which is only three stops from campus). As someone who does not have a car, it is in an excellent location as everything is within walking distance (although the bigger grocery stores like Giant and WholeFoods are a bit of a farther walk- about a half mile). The apartment is right around the corner from one of Maryland's Federal District Courthouses and a wonderful brewery that offers a lot of fun and safe outdoor dining options due to COVID-19. There is also a farmer's market in downtown Silver Spring's center shopping area every Saturday morning. The noise levels aren't too bad as the apartment is on a side street rather than the main roads in the downtown area.
Pros: Across the street from a park and quiet neighborhood for children to play. The neighborhood is good for a quiet run. 7-11 across the street for quick snack and coffee runs. 5 minutes away from downtown for restaurants, shopping and movies. 5 minutes away from metro station. Grocery stores and mall within 10 minutes.
Cons: Traffic. elevated noise due to multiple high rises amplifying outside noise.
DT Silver Spring is very much a city. It's more diverse that DC neighborhoods tend to be, with people from everywhere, of all income and education levels and of all ages and life-stages. This makes for a pretty eclectic place. There are three grocery stores in walking distance (including a Wholefoods) and the Silver Spring metro and bus station (a hideous looking monstrosity) ensure you can get anywhere pretty easily. The train line can be pretty noisy when the freight trains come through, but you get used to it.
