Great facility, poor location relative to AU.

This apartment has been pretty great and is super safe, clean, and full of amenities. The downside is, if you’re going to school at AU, you should plan to drive to classes. This apartment complex is also EXPENSIVE for it being in Bethesda, and doesn’t include parking. Parking is an additional $175/month and a year-long parking pass for AU is $1,000, so please keep these added expenses in mind. Definitely beautiful and safe, but not financially feasible for a graduate student.

Spacious

The biggest apartment i found in Bethesda by a long way so its great value and the balcony apartments get so much light.

The whole building could do with some modernization. I would like a controlled entry for increased safety.

The pool and gym are great but wish we could have in unit laundry.

The building doesn't allow pets (although a number of apartments have cats) i would like it if we could have dogs too.

The free additional storage units are also a huge advantage. Parking is additional but in Bethesda i guess that's standard.

Topaz House

Very solid, nothing special, but they try hard and constantly updating the facility. A bit out of the reaches of downtown Bethesda but safe, reliable and great value.

It may not be the shining lights of downtown DC but an easy place to get out from the city with its close metro links.

Topaz House

This apartment offers great space and floor to ceiling windows. The management team is a little bit hard to work with. Very close to public transportation, bars/restaurants. Safe environment and enclosed parking garage located in basement of the building.

About Bethesda

Bethesda is technically located in Maryland, but it's more of a DC suburb and is not far from campus. There are grocery stores, department stores, and other suburban necessities within a 5-10 minute drive. Many bars, restaurants, and additional shopping are also close by. Despite all there is to do,...

Getting around Bethesda

Bethesda Reviews

I absolutely love living in Bethesda and I'm so glad I ended up living here. If you're wanting to live somewhere that's walkable, and where you don't need a car, then Bethesda just might be your place. I will note, it is more "city" esque so if you don't like that feel, then maybe it isn't the place for you (that's the only reason why I took off a point was because of the occasional noise, especially in the mornings). But I absolutely love the walkability to all the shops, restaurants, grocery stores, farmers market, etc. I really couldn't ask for much better.
The neighborhood is a long way from campus (25 minutes on the metro), but it is very livable, with everything in quick driving distance. I love having a grocery store, a Target, and other suburban necessities within a 5-10 minute drive. This isn't possible if you don't have a car because the metro isn't walking distance, but there is a bus stop and it is bikeable. It's pretty quiet since the apartment itself is situated in the middle of an office park, which is nice. Plus, there is a very nice, upscale mall about 3/4 of a mile from the apartment. It's a good walk to get out and about on a weekend for a weekend lunch and some shopping.
Adjacent a large, inexpensive grocery store. A few restaurants in the immediate area. Relatively isolated from the main city. Other residents keep to themselves, producing a quiet atmosphere in the building.
There is often too much to do around the neighborhood - loads of great restaurants, from fast-casual to fine dining and everything in between. Great grocery options, as well as numerous individual sellers (bakeries, delis, butcher, fishmonger, etc.) Area is extremely safe and well-educated, but is pricey . Only con would be a slight lack of youth culture.
Bethesda is a great scene for up and coming young professionals. There is a plethora of walking distance restaurants and bars, and the happy hour specials are on point. We are walking distance to the red line metro, which goes right into the heart of DC. Dupont Circle is a 20 minute ride.
Free circulator bus stops right outside the apartment. It is a short walk to several bars and spots to meet up and there are several gyms in the area. Giant and Safeway are within walking distance, but also have parking options. Overall, very convenient and safe!
Neighborhood is nice but it's very suburban (AKA you're not gonna find much in walking distance). There's a convenience store up the way in another apartment complex and a park nearby, as well as a trail. Lots of families and pets.
Safe area, 3 grocery stores in walking distance, lots of bars and restaurants, lots of stay-at-home moms spotted out and about during the working hours with their posh strollers filled with kids and only the best yoga clothes.
