Convenient, safe, comfortable apartment

My partner and I have felt safe and comfortable living in our 1-BR unit the past several years. We have not been bothered by excessive noise or smells from other apartments, and we appreciate that the building keeps common areas clean and safe. The value is manageable for two of us sharing a 1-BR, and the rent is more reasonable than some other places closer to Bethesda or further into DC (though the rent might still might be a little pricy for students/young professionals trying to live on their own). Management could be more responsive to general questions from tenants.

Convenient and Clean, but neighborhood could be more interesting

HHW is a great complex depending on where you work. This was the main reason for our selection of HHW. It's a 5 minute easy walk to the Red Line Metro and very close to downtown Bethesda (short 5 min bus ride with spot just one short block away). The main downfall for me is the lack of interesting food/restaurant options in the neighborhood. It seems like everything here is a chain or too expensive. Some good, local, ethnic restaurants would be a nice addition. (Chad's on Wisconsin comes close). Also, the apartment complex has a nice mix of ages and demographics - lots of students, young couples, young kids, older adults, etc. The building is very quiet and well maintained. Everyone who lives there seems pretty nice and respectful.

Excellent location for great price

Have been living here for 3 year. Excellent location for great price. It is close to stores (such as J.Crew, Banana Republic, Gap, H&M), grocery stores (Whole Foods, Giant) and restaurants (Lia's, Cheesecake Factory, Clyde's, PF Chang). Close to Friendship Heights Metro Station.

Highlands

Nice apartment building, helpful front desk staff. Gym adequate but could use extra machines and is poorly lit due to its basement location.
Central location within close walking distance to the Red Line, nice proximity to the capital crescent trail. Con-nearby supermarkets are expensive.

Great building!

This is a great place to live for students as well as families. It's so close to the metro, bus lines, grocery store, and many places to shop and eat out. There's a beautiful rooftop with lounge chairs and a pool. The management is usually very responsive to residents' concerns. As a student, the best part is probably how safe I feel walking home alone at night.

Great location

Overall, the location is ideal - 5 min walk to the Friendship Heights metro, with many stores nearby. It's great for those who want to live near DC but not in the heart of downtown. The food options in the area are limited and mediocre at best (lots of chains). The building is extremely comfortable and well maintained. Service requests are dealt with very rapidly. Our rent is fairly reasonable for the area, though we are on a lower level, with windows facing other apartments. It's extremely spacious (try finding a 1 bedroom that's more than 1000 sq ft -- it's not easy) I feel very safe in the building, and the amenities are nice, especially the rooftop pool in summer months, the basement gym and free storage room.

Highland House

Safe feeling with fob entry and 24 hour concierge and maintenance personnel, pool on roof, great location 1 block from metro, restaurants and shopping. Parking garage renovations are finally done and monthly cost is less than other local garages. Guest parking policy and no Sunday move in are the biggest complaints

Getting around Friendship Village

Friendship Village Reviews

7 reviews
The area the apartment is in is quiet and nice. There aren’t many noise issues, and I have never felt unsafe walking around the neighborhood. Friendship Heights is only about a 15-20 minute bike ride from AU or about a 40 minute walk through the northwest DC neighborhoods. I am very close to Whole Foods for convenient grocery shopping, and Trader Joe’s and Target are just up the street in Bethesda. For entertainment and outings, getting anywhere in DC from Friendship Heights is rather easy. The metro is only about 2 blocks from the apartment complex, and the bus station is just across the street. If you have a car or take an Uber, you can be pretty much anywhere you need to be within 20 minutes.
Very close to lots of shopping and easy access to red line. It seems like a safe area. The stores and grocery all seem like they are geared to the upper class (in price and offerings). Good for me working in Rockville but still wanting to go be with the younger DC crowd on the weekends. Definitely a very diverse area, lots of international residents/diplomats working in DC in this area.
Friendship height feels safe and a great place to shop.
Its easy to get around without a car. Although it is missing bars and pubs, its a great place to shop for groceries at Giants or Whole Foods or clothing and home decor.
Friendship Village feels very safe and is pretty walkable. While the demographic is getting younger, the neighborhood seems to be largely made up of older adults. The restaurants in the area are generally pretty good and the closeness to the metro makes it easy to head to Bethesda for even more dining and shopping options. The metro also makes it really easy to get to school since Tenleytown is only one stop away.
Love the safety and convenience of this neighboorhood - the free shuttle service is awesome. Grocery stores and pharmacies nearby, and lots of shopping. However, not much personality beyond that. Could you some 'hole in the wall' kind of ethnic restaurants (but on the other hand, Bethesda just down the road has some of that). It's a comfortable in between neighboorhood connecting Bethesda and DC.
If you have some cash, really good to go shopping here! Metro is red line and very convenient. Whole foods is my favorite place but if you want a more economical grocery, the Safeway and Giant are kind of gross. Lack of street parking is an issue - I wouldn't drive here unless you want to pay for a garage.
Pro- nice looking houses along the street, walking distance to the metro, safe.
Cons- noisy in the morning (can hear trucks at 6am) and aggressive drivers
