Westwood

Sophistication and Authenticity
Westwood offers very close proximity to the UCLA campus and a relatively walkable environment within Westwood Village. The nearby green spaces and the overall safe feel of the neighborhood make it a great option for families with young children and pets, as well. Though Westwood is a relatively affordable area, in true LA fashion, the neighborhood still manages to maintain a measure of high-end charm with sleek dining options, multiple theaters, and intermittent trendy locales. Because of it’s proximity to UCLA, its attractive scenery within Westwood Village, and its effortless blend of sophistication and authenticity, Westwood is a very popular and active neighborhood.

Renters here love to be apart of the action and experience the culture encompassed in the Westwood neighborhood. Traffic can be very difficult and noise levels can be high, but the residents find this to be a worthwhile price to pay.

Westwood — 8.1/10 Rating (based on 28 neighborhood reviews)
Westwood Village is extremely underrated! I LOVE living there. It literally has everything you need - lots of restaurants, grocery stores and a target. Only issue is that most of the social events are in Brentwood/Sawtelle/Santa Monica. With that said, I choose to be closer to campus (only a 10 minutes bike, 20 minute walk).

I love to exercise and felt safe enough to run around as the sun was setting. Our neighbors were other students and it just felt like a nice community of friends to be surrounded by. The central court is a great place to sit and talk but be careful because words can echo for the entire complex to hear!

The apartment is north of wilshire and for anyone who wants to find a decent price for an apartment while living close by to campus, this is one of the few apartments you'll find it at for ~$700 and under.

It is surrounded by mostly students and several neighbors who have been residents for a while (eg older couples, and some families). There is a high density of other apartment complexes that rent out to students embedded into the neighborhood full of families so it is very safe. Street lamps everywhere and it is usually pretty lively at night so you do not feel isolated. It is also far enough from frat row that you do not hear their rowdy parties.

westwood is a great neighborhood for students. With plenty of restaurants nearby as well as supermarkets, dry cleaning, public transportation and everything a student needs. Walking (of free shuttle bus) from campus. And 10-15 minutes uber ride from Santa Monica and Brentwood.

Perfect for those who want to walk to campus and enjoy the multitude of local restaurants. The downside is the nightlife, which Westwood has little in comparison to West Hollywood or Venice/Santa Monica.

Neighbor apartments have a young crowd but they are tamed. A lot within walking distance and close to campus. Great apartment for first year; recommend Brentwood or Culver City for second year.

I live in Wilshire Corridor in Westwood which is great place to live. Central to everything, but not a ton of places to walk to (since I am not in downtown Westwood).

Westwood is amazing! I love the walkability of the neighborhood and all the great restaurants and cafes. It is really nice to have the Target and Ralphs in walking distance and you can't beat being able to walk to campus. It is also a nice central location, so it is an easy drive west to Santa Monica or east to Beverly Hills/West Hollywood.

Westwood is convenient because it's right by campus. I walk to school, come home for lunch, rarely have to drive, and can easily get to campus for evening events. There are also plenty of places to shop and eat in Westwood Village.

Lots of dining and grocery options at all price points. Very happy to have Ralph's and Target within walking distance (along with upscale groceries if that's your thing). 30 min to LAX or Santa Monica by car (if traffic is cooperative). Easy access to the 405. Lots of Uber cars around to take you where you need to go. Some quiet neighborhoods around campus that are good for running.

Some homeless people but overall feels quite safe. Only problem is that (surprise) it's definitely not cheap to live here.

Westwood is great if you want to be close to campus, have markets and cheap restaurants nearby, and have a safe environment. I can walk to Anderson in about 30 mins and drive in less than 10. Lots of undergrads in Westwood, though, so for second year I plan to move farther west.

I live across from the park on Veteran but I avoid it at night - some drug deals happening, lots of overnight campers, etc. I also would avoid walking under the 405 overpass along Ohio at night.
