Bad management, overpriced

Once it hit November, our gas bill increased by over 200% as did others' in the building. They blamed this on the change in weather; however, it hadn't been that cold, and we hadn't been running the heat very often. Additionally, you couldn't hear the fire alarms from two of the bedrooms in our house. The building was evacuated due to someone burning something in their kitchen; however, my roommate who was awake and working on homework at the time, learned about the evacuation via snapchat, because she couldn't hear the alarm. When we told the management about this, they told us other people had complained about this issue before, but refused to do anything about it until we had to continuously push them. Then they proceeded to install a fire alarm right outside our door, which solves the issue for us but not for the others they told us have complained about the same issue. Additionally, everything is overpriced. Parking is very expensive to park in a garage that is very difficult to navigate because it was meant to be a valet garage. Rent is very expensive for basically no amenities (the gym is very small). It costs over $3 per load of laundry and the management is not very responsive.

Great apartment/location, not so great mgmt.

I absolutely love our adorable, newly renovated apartment overlooking the park. It's a great location for our roommate who doesn't have a car, pet friendly, as a gym included, and underground and street level parking options for an additional monthly fee. HOWEVER, the property company that owns this building has been the absolute worst and is the reason we will be relocating at the end of this year. The managing staff is not responsive, demeaning, and just plain rude when you come to them with a genuine concern. The whole building has had maintenance issues, billing issues, and more which take a lot of effort to resolve because you have to track down a member of the management for weeks on end, despite the fact that they work in the building everyday, and HOUND them to remedy your problem, all while being made to feel like you don't know what you're talking about. All in all, I think they are just using Montclair and Parc Frontenac's rent to float the new property they are breaking ground on down the street. Bottom Line: This apartment is TOO EXPENSIVE for how the property company treats you.

About Central West End

Central West End is, perhaps, the most popular neighborhood in St Louis. The neighborhood borders Forest Park, home to both the St Louis Zoo and the Art Museum, and quite a few other activities, including mini golf, hiking, and boat rides on the lake. Central West End is also home to the Cathedral B...

Central West End Reviews

I absolutely love the Central West End and recommend it to everyone in St. Louis. In my eyes, there's really no better place to live, unless you are looking for something a bit more budget friendly, and in that case head to our wonderful neighboring community of Tower Grove! The Montclair and Park Frontenac are very affordable options in the CWE. The CWE is filled with beautiful historic homes and buildings. You could spend years learning about all the history of this place. It's also the most walkable neighborhood of STL and you have dozens of bars and restaurants out your doorstep. Also, plenty of spas, fitness centers, doctors, and even Barnes Jewish Hospital all in the area. Forest Park is steps away making the CWE the best place to live! There is still a bit of crime on the outskirts of the CWE (and it has increased with Covid), but the community hires extra security that walk and patrol every night, and the whole neighborhood is very well lit. If you are smart and aware, and avoid walking alone late at night, it is very safe. I have yet to feel in danger in the past 2 years. Highly recommend!
The Central West End has a young professional vibe and feels more like a big city than other areas of St. Louis. Apartments in CWE can be a little more expensive than similar apartments in other areas of St. Louis, but the proximity to the law school, public transit, Forest Park, and night life can’t be beat.
The Central West End is the ideal because it is both entertaining and very safe compared to other parts of the city. On the weekends especially, there is a lot going on here. Many of your basic needs are within walking distance, and if not, they are only a short 5 minute drive away.
I prefer living in the CWE as opposed to downtown area. There are a lot of young professionals, grad students, professional students, etc. in the area. It is just a block away from the Basilica, which had added patrolling security, making the area feel very secure.
Love the central west end, it is such a cute area with lots of places to walk to. I think it allows me to separate work from school because its about 10 minutes away from downtown.
This place is really cool to be next to. I love being within walking distance on coffee and the library. There are also a number of nearby grocery stores and restaurants.
The CWE area is great - lots of restaurants and shops and a Whole Foods. It is also right by Forest Park and there are always people outside running, biking, etc.
The neighborhood is very nice, they love dogs and are friendly to everyone. Also, the place is safe enough for me to go to Wholefoods even at nights.
