Good and bad

Wonderful location, Sprouts is right in the back yard less than 50 yards, Walmart across the street. Soon to be built Whole Foods down the street as well, well within walking distance. Furthermore, the other perks from a resident physician perspective is it’s a 15 min drive to Grady and 5 minute drive to Emory and the VAMC. The only downside is the traffic during school traffic hours.

Brand new building, first to live. Inaugurated in February 2017.
Apartment includes washer and dryer, nest therm control. Building complex has free internet in all common areas. North Dekalb shuttle passes in front of the building, that has a Walmart also in front of the building. 2 miles from Goizueta B School.

About Decatur

Northeast of Atlanta lies Decatur, a city unto itself, which is a favorite for many professionals, young families, and couples. Established in 1822, Decatur was named after Stephen Decatur, a naval hero from the Barbary Wars and the War of 1812. Today, Decatur is an up and coming city, experienci...

Getting around Decatur

Decatur Reviews

22 reviews
This is where the wealthy in ATL live, and a lot of great restaurants, bars, and little locales are near or in North Druid Hills. Main thing is that a car is absolutely necessary to get around. Public transportation is too sporadic and unreliable to get anywhere consistently.

Uber and Lyft are options, but if you're coming from a large metro area with small wait times for ride-sharing, be prepared to wait upwards of 15-20 minutes for your ride on select days because of road congestion/traffic/driver unavailability.
Great area. Down the road there is a shopping center with grocery stores, restaurants, and banks. Also close to trail system that you can walk your dog on.
While the area isn't as exciting as downtown Decatur, you're close to two major shopping plazas and have all the amenities at your fingertips. Being close to campus, too, is a huge bonus.
Walk to Kroger, groceries are nearby -- Sprouts, Dekalb Farmers Market, others. Corner bar/restaurant is Ethiopian. 1st year students can take the shuttle. I always wanted a parking pass first year, next years were much easier. Still ITP. If you have a class that requires you to drive in rush hours it takes time -- there are easy workarounds for this though. I don't know why people fight each other for much less of a place to live in order to be closer to school.
Safe neighborhood. Easy to walk around if you want to, but things are a little spread out, so it's not a very walkable neighborhood like a more downtown neighborhood would be.
Toco Hills is great, and lots of food at North Decatur/Clairmont. Down Decatur is great, and is a short drive/Lyft/bus away.
Decatur is a cool area. There isn't all that much social though. The class hardly ever hangs out in Decatur but it's less than a 15 minute drive to campus.
It is near Toco Hills, the area is not the most lively but is close to entertainment and nightlife in Decatur. It's very close to the VA and Emory but Grady is definitely further away.
