Good Stuff!

Summit Hills in Downtown Silver Spring is a great, affordable location close to a metro stop.

Management is quick with maintenance responses and the community is gated thus it's been pretty safe. I enjoy not paying a whole paycheck to live here as opposed to the many other "modern styled" places in the area.

A bit outdated, but good price

Things are a bit outdated including the gym. But having a convenience store right next store is very nice. Also, wish the bathroom had a fan. A bit of a problem with some bugs/mice, but it's a large complex, so that's to be expected. Good price for location.

Great value

It is a great value, a short walk to the metro, ample parking, pool onsite, gym, and small convenience store. Great for young professionals working in non-profits or artists. Spacious bedrooms with good lighting, we've never had issues with the management.

Great place

Summit hills is a affordable housing community. They try hard to maintain the property and make it fun. The building managers are really sweet. Good for such affordable rent. Also walkable from metro so that is a plus. Overall a great place to live!!

Summit Hills in Silver Spring

Affordable price and good location close to DC. Free parking, free gym that needs a bit of sprucing up, but good enough for every day activity.

Utilities all included so it really takes out the guesswork out of things. The only downside is the buildings heat / AC is controlled centrally so you have no control of if you want to have the heater on in the summer or AC on in the winter.

That's pretty much it.

Amazing location!

Summit Hills is a great place to live for students, young working professionals, and even families! The location is great, just a mile or so from downtown Silver Spring, less than a mile from a grocery store and CVS, as well as many restaurants. The management is always nice and eager to help. The facility itself is clean and the grounds are well kept!

Good value and good location

Reasonable rent and close to metro. Rent includes utilities, although you are not able to regulate the temperature of AC/Heat. Old building - which means thick walls (you won't hear your neighbors) but also looks outdated. Generally clean. Good location.

Great apartment complex, friendly staff

Summit Hills is great. Location is fine. There is a mice problem right now but the manager and staff are quick to respond. The gym is big enough with a good variety of equipment. There is also a convenience store next to the gym which is great. Oh and there is a dog park in the complex. It's like a small community.

Outstanding management and great value

Living at Summit Hills has made my transition of moving from the west coast to DC for school so much easier. Although it is still a 20 minute drive from my school, the location and price can't be beat. It is close to the red line silver spring metro. Going to school via metro takes about 30-40 minutes (walking time included). It is also very close to a grocery/pharmacy store (giant, CVS, rite aid; close to restaurants and DT Silver Spring.

Getting around Silver Spring

Silver Spring Reviews

66 reviews
Slower pace, smaller and safer than DC, but has all the same offerings. Ethnic restaurants, shopping, nightlife, nature trails, public transit, farmers market. Very diverse, aesthetically pleasing and walkable.
There is a ton to do in downtown Silver Spring. The Veterans plaza area has great restaurants and bars. The farmers market on Saturdays is huge, and my favorite part of the weekend. Lots of young couples, and families.
I lived in silver spring since undergrad and have no complaints. Front desk does good job of not letting random people into building. You need key fob to access most areas of building so feels very safe
There is a lot of green space, and the walk to the Metro station is really nice. It's quiet, which we really like.
Right in the heart of DTSS so a lot to do and a lot of great restaurants.
It's only a five minute walk to the red line metro stop in downtown Silver Spring (which is only three stops from campus). As someone who does not have a car, it is in an excellent location as everything is within walking distance (although the bigger grocery stores like Giant and WholeFoods are a bit of a farther walk- about a half mile). The apartment is right around the corner from one of Maryland's Federal District Courthouses and a wonderful brewery that offers a lot of fun and safe outdoor dining options due to COVID-19. There is also a farmer's market in downtown Silver Spring's center shopping area every Saturday morning. The noise levels aren't too bad as the apartment is on a side street rather than the main roads in the downtown area.
Pros: Across the street from a park and quiet neighborhood for children to play. The neighborhood is good for a quiet run. 7-11 across the street for quick snack and coffee runs. 5 minutes away from downtown for restaurants, shopping and movies. 5 minutes away from metro station. Grocery stores and mall within 10 minutes.
Cons: Traffic. elevated noise due to multiple high rises amplifying outside noise.
DT Silver Spring is very much a city. It's more diverse that DC neighborhoods tend to be, with people from everywhere, of all income and education levels and of all ages and life-stages. This makes for a pretty eclectic place. There are three grocery stores in walking distance (including a Wholefoods) and the Silver Spring metro and bus station (a hideous looking monstrosity) ensure you can get anywhere pretty easily. The train line can be pretty noisy when the freight trains come through, but you get used to it.
