It's fine

The Pointe is exactly what I expect from a relatively affordable midwest one bedroom apartment. There is a lot of carpeting, cheap doors/appliances, and lots of space. The complex is decently clean with ok parking (you can pay extra for a spot in the underground garage which I have done). It's quiet, clean, and safe. Right on the river walk which is a nice spot to be (when it's nice out you can hear people rafting down the river in the summer). It's close to downtown, right by Corby's, and only 5 minute drive from campus.

2023 Housing Review

1. I Love the floor-to-ceiling windows that help the room filled with sufficient sunlight
2. My room faces the parking lot, so it is quite quiet during the day and night
3. Not an ideal location for walking to school, but the Transpo bus stop is around the apartment, and it will take you to the school within 15 mins

Good for temporary

The apartment complex is an older building but is in the process of redoing apartments. My kitchen has all new appliances and is pretty modern. The apartment is huge and each room has huge closets with which a plus. There are also two bathrooms in my apartment which is really nice. There is also a patio on each apartment. The community centers are also nice! The gym is good enough and there is a pool! Also anytime there is an issue, maintenance responds almost immediately, which is so nice.

Do Not Live Here Unless You Have To

Awful, awful experience.

The fire alarm sporadically goes off every 3 weeks, and they say "they'll get to it." I have been there for multiple years, and no one has done anything about it. Management is never available, they do not have a package room, and do not force delivery drivers to actually deliver packages. There are MOUNTAINS of packages in the entryway.

Safety is not great. During a power outage, the "scan-in" key fobs stopped working, so folks had to prop open doors. This is extremely dangerous, as I have personally had to call the cops about dangerous folks roaming in our parking lot.

Further, recently, they emailed us at 2:00 PM, right before Thanksgiving, that everyone had to move their cars by 7:00 AM or be towed. Less than 12 hours of notice, when people are already gone on the holidays, to clear out the parking lot? Inexcusably bad management.

Also, the pool was constantly shut down due to chemical issues. My wife and I ended up never using it because we deemed it unsafe- how can you trust a pool that is shut down every couple of weeks for chemical and mechanical issues?

Lastly, they have wholesale changed out leasing and maintenance professionals multiple times since I've lived there. At one point, everyone got fired at once. What are they not telling us?

I wish I could give them zero stars.

Nice Apartments, Management is Terrible and Parking is Rough

I lived with my significant other and a roommate in a two bed, two bath plus den apartment. The apartment itself is very nice with good carpeting, layout, and kitchen appliances. It has in unit W/D which is nice and on those fronts I was happy.

However, the management is horrible to work with. They have a very high turnover rate in the office so you never know when the person you're working with will be gone. They also tried to sneakily add charges onto our monthly bill, saying we should have paid them when we moved in. But we had already been living in the apartment for close to a year and had documents to prove we'd already paid the charges. It took my roommate threatening to seek counsel for them to remove the charges. They can be very unaccommodating and will add random charges hoping you just pay them.

The parking situation is also not ideal. They have free parking in the outside lots...except there aren't enough spots for everyone who lives in the apartment. If you come home after 5:30, you will not have a place to park you car and they will tow (even though you live here). You can buy a space in the underground garage for $80 a month which is a lot and the space becomes attached to your lease so you have to pay it during breaks etc. Because it is closer to downtown, there were also issues with someone having their car stolen from the outside lot, and someone even syphoned all the gas from my car when I parked to close to the roadside of the complex.

The apartments are good, but the rest is lack luster.

Apartment

The apartments are really nice and clean. My only problem with the apartment is that there is not enough parking for everyone. So you either have to walk far or pay for a parking garage. I think rent is a lot too for such a place that is far from campus.

The Pointe

Overall, my experience has been good. The location is convenient to downtown, close to the East Race trail, and not too far from campus. The floor plan is spacious, and more reasonably priced than options closer to campus. Sometimes the response of maintenance can be a bit slow.

My experience at the pointe

The Pointe is very helpful when it comes to maintenance requests and overall is a very clean place. The area is within close walking distance to a few bars and restaurants. There is a nice walking area close by. The pool was nice when it was open before COVID.
