10/10!!

I've been living at canal for 2 years now and I don't plan to leave. I have a 12 minute commute from campus. My apartment is spacious, I have a big closet. There is also an "in apartment" washer and dryer. It is not furnished so you do need to purchase your own furniture. Everyone is very friendly here, there are people from all ages. All the staff are amazing and they really want to make sure you have a good experience here. Parking is included, and there is enough space for guest. There is a gate they does down at night, where you have to buzz in with your key fob.

There is a trail near by that I see many people walk or ride bikes, the pool is amazing and can be very relaxing during the summer. You can pay extra for covered parking, a garage, or additional storage in the basement.

If you are a student ask to see if there are any subsized housing available that's why my rent is 1300 and not 2000+.

Cons: Sometimes I hear my upstairs neighbor, he's an older guy with a dog, I think he is retired so sometimes it sounds like he is doing projects up there, who knows, but if I am bothered too much I just call the office and they are able to remind him to keep it down.

Overall, a very trustworthy complex, everyone is friendly, the complex hosts free social gatherings with wine and cheese, or movie night etc.
They also have frequent visits with various food trucks which is nice if you don't feel like cooking or going anywhere. (you do have to buy the food)

besides that Ive loved my time here and I hope this helped!

I will be living here all 4 years :)

During my first visit to Connecticut I went to 8 apartment complexes in one day. Being accepted so much later in the application cycle I was scrambling to find a place. So...

I found Canal crossing.

The management.... is amazing !! Very friendly and very timely on concerns, they are always there when I need them or have a question.

The apartment.... So modern, check out their website and even ask for a tour , they have a pool, gym, dog park, regular park for children, a walking path if you enjoy walking or riding a bike. They have additional storage space in the basement area. You can pay additional money for garage space or under the covered parking area. Great closet space, in-apartment washer and dryer, dishwasher etc.

The utilities... I pay them all separately, the water, gas, electricity, and my wifi .. Since I am a student I got a good discount.

From a transitioning undergraduate, I was slightly away at first because I had to furnish the place and the rent was sky-high, (then I found out about the student discount :)

Other than those points, it's a gated community, very safe, the neighbors are great, very friendly, pet-friendly, there are some restaurants and shopping centers down the street too.

There are other medical students from Yale, Quinnipiac, doctors, lawyers, nurses, families that all live here.

Canal Crossing

Canal Crossing can be affordable to students if you ask about student programs and/or military discounts. It is a quiet community of working professionals with very few kids. A lot of medical students from Yale and Netter also live there which is nice.

Worth the extra money

I really like living here, the apartments are beautiful and spacious. Washer/dryer in unit is the biggest lifesaver ever. Property and amenities are incredibly well-maintained and clean. The way med students afford to live here is through the subsidized housing program the management offers, which is super competitive so if you want to live here apply super early!

My biggest complaint is that the walls are really thin, so at times it can get really loud and you will likely hear your neighbors or people in the hall or parking lot. The other thing to consider when budgeting is that you have to pay for basically all the utilities (electric, water, gas, heat, etc), absolutely nothing is included so just something to keep in mind especially if you want to live here alone.

One Bedroom at Canal Crossing

Living at Canal Crossing has been great so far. I live in a one-bedroom, and while it's pretty expensive, I think it's worth the price for all the amenities. My building is brand new, and it includes a Nest thermostat (central AC and heat), a dishwasher, and in-unit washer and dryer. The apartment complex has a pool, a small gym that's great for treadmill or dumbbell workouts (think hotel gym), tons of outdoor seating/patio furniture, barbecues, a package center, and a dog park. Parking is included with rent, and there are options to upgrade to a covered spot or a garage. The complex is gated (the gates are closed at night and on Sundays), so I've felt very safe living here. Management is super responsive and helpful. The one downside of Canal Crossing is that noise can sometimes be an issue depending on who your neighbors are, but overall, it's not a dealbreaker for me. There are many other Netter students living in the complex, so it's nice knowing there are other students close by, especially during the pandemic. It's about a 13-15 minute drive to campus, and there's plenty of restaurants and grocery stores in the area.
