Hanover Place
My overall experience has been good at Hanover Place. My primary complaints are hopefully accidental and not representative of others' experiences. The price for the amount of space I have is fair in comparison to Michigan rent--I am from Michigan. The location has its own drive and parking spaces, so I never have to worry about traffic. I also feel safe at Hanover Place. My main complaint with the unit I moved into is that it wasn't properly cleaned or maintenanced before I moved in. One of the metal shelves in the bathroom was rusted and unusable. The oven was not cleaned. The toilet seemed to just be repainted rather than repaired. Most of these have been addressed since I moved in, but the lack of maintenance and cleaning was a major disappointment to an otherwise pretty good apartment. The maintenance people are very friendly.

low rent, crime ridden neighborhood
The smell was terrible when we first moved in, but that's because management did not have the previous tenants clean properly and did not do turn over Maintanence before we moved in.
Anywhere near downtown is the worst for crime (break ins, drug dealers, used needles, homeless, stolen packages, cars broken into regularly, doors checked for unlocked break-in, shady activity in all aspects).
The building is older, and management does the bare minimum to keep the status quo of "ok." (Examples: 6 minutes of medium warm water for a shower, and water heater was the issue. Managment took 1.5 years to finally replace the water heater. AC unit leaks freon, and twice a summer it has to be refilled, otherwise you bake at 85 degrees inside your "air-conditioned" home.)
General advise: don't move anywhere near downtown. Check crime maps of the area where you're considering living.
