Good value, slightly further from campus than most buildings

1500 Locust is a bit further from the Penn campus (35-40 min walk) than most apartment buildings that Wharton students live in, but the building provides good value since you can get renovated and large (800 sq. ft.+) 1-bedroom units. I think it is hard to beat the rental prices here compared to more popular Wharton buildings, plus the units are 25%-50% larger. The building has had perennial issues with elevators being out of service, which can add significant wait times since it is a large building, but management seems to be focused on addressing the issues and improving the overall living experience here. It's a good place to live especially if you are sharing a 1-bedroom unit with a partner and want to live in a building that has fewer Wharton students.

The full package for less!

I love living at 1500 Locust. The apt layouts are very spacious (750+ sq ft for a 1 bed). My fittings are not recently renovated but still great. Maintenance comes fast. The higher floors give a great view of the city. The amenities floor is so nice - spacious lounge, indoor heated pool, decent gym, and gorgeous roof deck. It’s a bit separated from the Wharton bubble but that means amenities are never crowded. You’re ~5-10mins from the popular Wharton buildings and super close to lots of the popular restaurants by being midway between RH and center city.

1500 Locust Review

Living at 1500 Locust has been very pleasant overall. There are wonderful front desk staff available at all times. So it is a very secure building and there is no worry about package stealing. There is also a rooftop, indoor pool, and gym. The only real downside is there are only 3-4 elevators for a very large building so if one is down, it gets very backed up. Has only happened once to me so far. Another tip is asking if they have any unrenovated units available if interested because they are cheaper than the renovated units and honestly equally nice. Most units are also significantly more spacious than others in the area for around the same price.

Affordable and near Rittenhouse Square

The building has great amenities. Rooftop with gym and pool. In-unit repairs were all done very fast. Front desk people are very nice and helpful. Location is a little further than where most Wharton people, but it's still a very good location.

My renting experience was not that good, with some rudeness from an agent when calling. Studios are spacious, but they receive very little sunlight and there is no lightening installed in the main area of the studio. It's very rare to see all elevators working at the same time.

1500 Locust

Location very convenient to many restaurants and downtown and Rittenhouse Park. Onsite staff is phenomenal - friendly, helpful, fix stuff same-day. Management company is at times unyielding. Onsite pool, gym and roof deck are also great. I take the bus to work that's usually 25-40 minutes roundtrip.

1500 Locust

This has been a great space for us. It's not super fancy, but it's good value for an apartment we like, pool/jacuzzi, rooftop and location in city center close to Rittenhouse Park. It's about 30min on the bus to work or about 40min walk. The on-site door and maintenance staff is super friendly and get repairs done quickly, however, the management company doesn't budge at all on complaints.

Well-run with one caveat...

This building is actually very well run - maintenance orders are dealt with almost too fast and the front desk is super helpful. Only major downside is slow elevators (just add an extra 2 minutes to everything)

Good value

Just a tiny bit outside of the Wharton bubble but you definitely get more for your money. Gym, pool, and roof deck are nice perks. They're generally pretty strict on guests so won't be able to host parties in the common spaces. Not the most luxury interiors vs. other Wharton-heavy buildings but nice enough. Elevator breakdowns can sometimes be annoying and we've had a few fire alarm evacuations.

Rittenhouse Square Reviews

Walnut street is very safe - there's always people around and it's well lit. The neighborhood includes all of the fun aspects of living in Philadelphia - tons of access to food and bars, nearby grocery stores/markets, access to the parks and the Schuylkill River Trail
Very close to fun restaurants/bars/shops. Close to the subway as well as the train station (suburban station).
Rittenhouse is the safest part of Philly. It's a very "happening" part of town—lots of restaurants and bars on every street. At the same time, it's right next to more residential neighborhoods to walk around in and explore. It's a great place to live relatively close to the law school but with a degree of separation so as not to get trapped in the law school bubble.
The neighborhood is both quiet and lively. There is so much around, but I have never had an issue sleeping or studying because there is too much noise. The broad street line is a 10-15 minute walk away and we are close to shopping, food, the park, and the river trail. Has everything within a 10-15 walk.
This neighborhood has everything I need within walking distance. Shops, grocery stores, parks, the subway and trolley, post office. You name it. It's very safe and extremely quiet, which helps when I'm trying to study. The Rittenhouse Square area is really the best place to live in Philly if you don't mind paying a little more.
I love this neighborhood and knew I wanted to live here when beginning my apartment search. The park is one of my favorite places in the city, and I love being able to easily access all the restaurants and shopping nearby. It's also an easy (~20 minute) walk to Penn Law, and the walking commute has always been a nice and peaceful part of my day.

Spruce Street in particular is great - it's a little south of the square, so is quieter/shielded from a lot of the traffic that the neighborhood gets, but it's not out of the way or far away. There's a Starbucks, a grocery store (Rittenhouse Market), and a few corner stores (Four Seasons and Food & Friends) within a 2-3 minute walk of my apartment.
Love the neighborhood, Rittenhouse Square is beautiful and we are so close to the more commercial areas like Walnut Street while not being in the center of the craziness. Plus we are within walking distance of public transportation including 10 minutes from the 15/16 street PATCO station. I personally think it is one of the best areas of Philly to live in.
Rittenhouse Square has a park in the center surrounded by a bookstores, restaurants, and a public library. It is open to pets and often has open art / food markets on the weekends. It is close to the Broad Street Line and PATCO. There are many families who live in the area. It is affordable compared to other major cities (NYC, DC, Boston), but there are certainly more affordable areas in Philadelphia, simply without the luxury of being so close to Center City.
