SkyVue Review.

Happy with the apartment. Elevators are often broken and the trash chute is often clogged but other than that it’s a great place to live.

Overpriced with Awful Maintenance and Management

Our apartment is decent on the inside, but they clearly cut a lot of corners when building. We were given a unit that did not match the floor plan in our lease and they would not reduce our rent, their only solution was to have us move mid semester to a furnished unit. Windows are small and none of the appliances work correctly except our fridge. Stove smokes, disposal and washer all have issues. (Got a fruit fly infestation from a broken sink disposal.)

Maintenance is absolutely useless. Most of the gym equipment has been broken since we moved in and none of the common space amenities work consistently.

Pros of this place: convenient location to campus for first year, decently secure, good soundproofing, has central air conditioning.

I've lived in other "luxury" buildings that were miles better than this and relatively less expensive in much higher COL cities. This place is a total ripoff.

Skyvue living

Skyvue is perfectly located for medical students at Pitt. You can walk to Magee, Presby, Montefiore, and Scaife. And if you have rotations at Shadyside, you get free parking. A bus at Fifth and Craft will take you directly to Mercy. Parking here costs $175 per month which is kind of expensive but probably worth it in third and fourth year. The apartments are fairly big and it's a recent build so nice new amenities. They have furnished and unfurnished units (these are slightly larger). Some cons are that things in the gym are often broken and management isn't the greatest at responding.

Skyvue apartments

Skyvue is relatively new so it’s really nice with a new gym. The units are all mostly 1 bathroom per person which is super nice! Administration is typically pretty helpful (especially in the past year, before that it was much harder to get ahold of them). My experience with them coming to fix broken things around the unit is really good too.

The facility is conveniently located, but the common areas are not cleaned regularly enough and many of the amenities are closed the “winter” season (which is most of the school year in pgh)

Skyvue, luxury apartment, located close to Scaife

I've really enjoyed living at Skyvue. The rooms are the nicest I've ever lived in. It has a very modern look and options to have individual bathrooms in 2 bedroom apartments. There are some really nice common rooms with great views of the city. Having access to the gym is really nice because you don't have to go to the Pete which is usually very crowded. Walking to Scaife takes 15 minutes, and you don't have to walk up the hill if you walk through Montefiore and Presby (it's a convoluted route, but once you know it you can use the elevators to get you there). Skyvue is very secure--there are multiple points where you need to swipe your key. Mail can be picked up in the lobby during office hours. Food delivery is usually left in the lobby if no one is there to receive it. Some cons are that it takes some time for management to fix problems like broken elevators or gym equipment. Overall, even though it is a pricier option compared to Skyvue, the ease of getting to school and the amenities have been worth it for me personally.

SkyVue

The building is nice but windows don’t open so air can feel stuffy. The units are small but modern with high quality appliances. Management is kind of painful and make sure you see the exact until you will get ahead of time because i was almost stuck in a room with a huge heat pump obstructing a quarter of the space that was not in the floor plan. Maintenance is quick and easy, the janitor is very personable and helpful.

Great but expensive

Its been great. It has a heated pool that runs throughout winter, grills available to all tenants, multiply plasma screen tv's, meeting/study rooms, and events in the apt. You can park on your apt's floor and its within walking distance of MSU's football and basketball games. The room is spacious, it has a great kitchen and a walk-in closet. The room also comes fully furnished.

The downside is that you are on the opposite side of campus from the business school, and it's expensive, and they lock you into 12-month leases.

Oakland Reviews

North Oakland is great! It's within walking distance to Scaife, but it's far enough away that I feel a nice sense of separation from school. It's generally a quiet area that is well-separated from the undergraduates. It's also very close to all of the restaurants/grocery stores in Shadyside/East Liberty. I love living at this location.
In the northern part of Oakland between Trees Gym and Peterson Events Center/UPMC Presbyterian. Generally safe and not that busy. Occasionally have homeless people ask for money and high influx of people during the basketball season.
I love living in North Oakland. I am about a 20 minute walk to campus, so it is nice to not have to rely on public transit. It is also a very quiet neighborhood and mostly consists of graduate students.
The neighborhood is right between school and restaurants/groceries. It is mostly residential and quiet.
I live and work here, but honestly do not explore much of the neighborhood because there is not much to see. Food choices are pretty good, many small restaurants and fast-food style places. The prettiest spots are the Carnegie Museums and Schenley Park, always fun to visit the Phipps Botanical Gardens as well, all of which are on the edge with other neighborhoods. No big grocery store (except Forbes Street Market which is very helpful and has all the essentials).
The location is great. You can catch a bus really to any part of the city from here.
It gets loud and kind of dirty because of the undergrads being around. And at night it’s not the safest (like from 12 am - 6am). But it’s close to Pitt, the hospitals, and decent fast food on Forbes or Craig St
Oakland is nice, lots of food options and feels safe. Major negative is lack of grocery store, which is annoying if you don’t have a car.
