Very Safe

I feel very safe living here and the apartment is conveniently located near school and close to trader joes and whole foods. Walking distance from the monuments. Maintenance is very timely and building has great security. Only downside is cranky elderly residents. Otherwise, building is very quiet.

About Foggy Bottom

The naturally foggy surroundings of the area gives it its own unique name - Foggy Bottom. Unfortunately, its name does not highlight the excellent quality of music, dance and drama practiced in the neighborhood every single day. The John F Kennedy and Potomac River-side performing arts centers are p...

If you are looking for robust night life/restaurants/things to do, Foggy Bottom is not for you. Luckily, Foggy Bottom is walking distance to those features which makes it quite accessible. This neighborhood is great for students because of its proximity to the school and transit but it is quite expensive and I would not choose to live here if I was not a grad student.
For being close enough to downtown and in a metropolitan area, it's considerably safe. There's sufficient lighting and always people outside around the area. We're within walking distance of GW hospital and ambulances and police periodically drive by, but not abnormal for the city.
Good for school, not good for social life and restaurants and bars because it's a predominately transient neighborhood with lots of businesses (World Bank, State Department, etc) so it shuts down essentially on the weekends and at night.
Filled with undergrad students, but good access to metro and easy to walk downtown to work. Also good access to supermarket, though the Whole Foods is geared more towards grab and go Foods than groceries
It is very safe, quiet, and clean, but sometimes it is very dead on weekends and there are not a ton of food options. I like how close it is to campus and a convenient metro line.
The transportation, restaurant, gym, safety are great. The problem is that it is noisy. And there is no near supermarket like Walmart.
Very safe and convenient area. Little pricy and far from bars/restaurants. Ambulance noice from the hospital can be annoying.
Quiet except for car noise. Couple break in to cars parking on the streets. Near significant homeless population.
