Hidden Spot

Allston is known for being a little dirty, especially when you are around Harvard Ave. However, there's a section of Allston that is completely different. I live right by the Griggs Street stop. It has a bunch of new and renovated apartments for a very reasonable price. The best thing is that you're not on Harvard Ave (which is usually the most crowded T stop) and you get to BU Law in about 20 minutes. There's also a Starbucks, a pizza place, a CVS, and a dry cleaners, right by the T stop, which is very convenient. The grocery store is 2 stops from where I live, so you can either walk or take the T if you're carrying a lot of things.

The apartment complexes in my neighborhood have either underground parking or have parking lots, which is amazing in Boston (no street parking, meters, or street cleaning to worry about).

The apartments typically have central heating and cooling so you don't have to worry about radiators in the winter or not having A/C in the summer. But, this typically means you'll be paying your own electric bill. I lived literally one street up from where I live now (Kelton St) and it's a completely different scene, the apartments there are very old, are not maintained well, do not have A/C and sometimes the radiators don't work. I would say try to live with a roommate, you'll often find cheaper/better places that way.

Allston is the greatest if you want to be near downtown but have a better community feeling. Great restaurant and bar scene here.
Almost all of my neighborhood are all kinds of apartments. And lots of students in BU live here. So it's safe. Though sometimes students would hold some parties until 2 am, in general, it's suitable to live.
The building is located on the edge of streets with a lot of restaurants and activity, so there are lots of bars and places to eat within walking distance. You can also walk to the Charles in about 15 minutes. It's a quick commute to Kenmore or Brighton. One downside is that there is a lot of construction happening right now and not a lot of green space for our dog when we walk around the building.
I really like living in Allston! It's a little far from BUSPH but the neighborhood has so many fun restaurants and bars, plus it's close to the main BU campus which is nice for the FitRec and other amenities.
It is a pretty safe area, many BU students live around our street and in our building. We have never had a package stolen and I can't say I have noticed any suspicious activity going on around our street.
love allston! great restaurants and underground music scene.
Places to eat and get groceries. Lots of undergrads. Fine proximity to BU shuttle
Close to BU, with lot of restaurants/bars
