Great place to live!

I truly love my apartment. It is a great price and is very homey/enough space for just me. Any time I have a problem (aka a lightbulb is out) someone is there to help me in a very timely manner. My only complaint about Mockingbird Flats is that the gym has been out of commission ever since COVID-19 started. They stated they would have a system of letting people do times where they cause use the gym, but have never done it.

It's expensive for what it is but gets it done

The location of these apartments is fantastic, it's literally the best thing about them. I have easy access to restaurants, DART and a ton of other stuff. Also unlike 5 mockingbird, we don't have as many problems with people trying to use the parking lot. That being said, it isn't as safe as it looks and I do think that people forget that sometimes.

It does remind me of living in a dorm since so many college aged people live here. Not in the fun way of a dorm either in that it's a community, more like someone is throwing a party on Tuesday nights and you're trying to sleep.

Could I rent somewhere cheaper and get more space, yes. Could the property management be not as hands-off, also yes. But for it's location it's really fantastic and it isn't the worst place I've lived.

Management group changed for times

I don't know if it's common or not but this definitely means they won't have enough motivation to maintain equipment and devices such as a very-old elevator.

Poor management

The apartment is in a good location but is small and lacks a balcony for the price. The apartment management does not promptly attend to issues. Many bikes were stolen from the bike storage room and the apartment staff failed to notify residence and address the issue. Additionally, the apartment charges a large fee for amenities such as the bike storage, business center and gym which is unavailable to residents although the fee for such amenities

It is a good place for new student.

This apartment is very close to campus and many school shuttle pass by. However, the service is not as good as before, therefore the rent is kind of higher than expectation.

Mockingbird flats

The building is clean and not too noisy. Overall a decent crowd. Often the common areas smell of pot though. Also, elevators are constantly broken and don't get fixed for weeks.

Mocking Bird Flats Review

The best feature is that we are close to SMU. When we moved in the dryer heating element was out. It took 4 or 5 visits and two months in the apartment to fix. The elevators are often out (at least 10 times in 1.5 years). The parking garage gate has gone out at least twice which is a security concern. There was an attempted robbery that ended in a gun death in my building during that time. I have evacuated for fire alarms at least 4 times and they have gone off at least 10 times in 1.5 years. Walls are thin.

Living Experience

The walls are thin so you can hear everything in the hallway. The elevators break down all the time. Maintenance issue takes awhile to get fix. I like that SMU is close to the apartment and it is pet friendly.

Great quarters, decent management, truly unbeatable location. Location is everything for your time at Cox. No better place to live, in my opinion.
