Great Location, Covered Parking, Expensive & Poorly Managed

The best thing about living at the Foundry (the older building) is that it is located on Eddy Street, close to campus, and the parking is covered. However, all of these benefits come at a cost that is much higher than the other options in the surrounding area. The high cost of living at the Foundry is especially frustrating when things are not working as they should and you have to try to contact the management company. All the amenities and the general premises of the Foundry are poorly kept. Appliances are either or both old and cheap, the gym equipment (in the old gym and new gym (note I had to pay extra for a key to the new gym)) is constantly dirty, and the package room is a nightmare (it is sometimes so frustrating to locate packages that you give up and leave). Furthermore, if you are looking security, keep looking, there is one security guard for 100s of units. If a problem occurs at night there is never anyone from the building available to help. One semester fire alarms consistently went off in the middle of the night and there was no one from the building available to deal with the problem. If the power goes out which it sometimes does, the emergency lights only stay on for about an hour and the the main doors to the building lock, so if you leave the building, you cannot re-enter. If you call the Foundry helpline at night, you will be rerouted to a person who is unfamiliar with the building and unable to help in a meaningful way.

Foundry Review

I really enjoy the Foundry. It is on the pricier side, but the amenities are very nice and new. My roommate and I each have our own bathroom. The location is great too!

The only thing I would complain about is my packages are often lost for a few days!

It's expensive, but the best for walking to school.

I think it's the easiest and nicest place to live within walking distance to Notre Dame. That said, it's incredibly expensive. If you live off campus, you can pay half as much.

Foundry South

The Foundry is the best option for students seeking a new apartment within walking distance to campus. Rent is also reasonable, at least compared to living in a larger city. That said, the construction itself is cheap & has resulted in numerous problems (including 3 water leaks/floods in the past year in my unit alone, a faulty fire alarm at 3 am resulting in a 911 call, etc). Property managers are unresponsive and do not care about resident complaints.

Would Recommend

Although the rent is higher than other nearby apartments, The Foundry is brand new, a 10 minute walk to the law school, and allows pets.

Foundry South

Foundry South was intended to be Graduate and Professional student living only; this is not the case currently, but that may be a function of the COVID-related living situations of undergraduate students. The apartments are extremely nice, well maintained, and in excellent condition, but accordingly they are among the most expensive. Foundry does allow a short term lease, at the cost of $50/mo short term lease fee. Overall the management/leasing office is disorganized, but very much willing to help and are not ill-intended.

Once you're in, it's awesome

The proximity of the Foundry cannot be beat. Love the location so much, easy walk to Mendoza or any of campus. Most students hang out on Eddy St so it's great to be so close to everyone and be able to just pop downstairs.

The process of getting in though is a pretty poor experience. The leasing office is pretty bad about answering requests, and getting a response from them on pressing issues even is like pulling teeth. Lots of turnover and the staff is not overly friendly but I know they deal with the University and constant changes coming from them, which has to be frustrating. Some apartments have very thin walls. We lived above Brothers and we could also hear the music through the floor.

Good for a College Apartment Complex

The apartment is nice for being a college apartment complex. It is mostly graduate students in my building. There are multiple buildings in the complex, some of which are for undergraduate students. The graduate apartment buildings (South) are nicer than undergraduate buildings (North). The complex has a small 24-hour gym, a pool (which was not open long), and garage parking.
