I like the place, but it's too expensive

When we moved in we had new appliances, cabinets, and carpet and the rent was $2100. That is very reasonable, I was happy to pay that. But now, it's only 2 years later, and everything is now old and used, but we're playing $500 more. It just doesn't make sense. They are great at responding to concerns and keeping everything clean and nice, but that's what they are supposed to do. I just don't get why they think it's ok to raise rent on us by this much. I don't care that it's within the law, the law is there to serve landlords not tenants. They are taking advantage of a basic need everyone has. Further, it's not a nice area, it's near train tracks, and between two low budget hotels, so I can't understand why they think it's okay to charge us so much.

Nice, but hard to qualify

I rated the apartment a 7/10 because there is decent parking, 2 spots for a 2 bedroom, there is some garage and also carport storage, the insides are recently renovated so new appliances, carpet (2nd story) or wood (1st) and there is a washer dryer outside each unit on the patio (very small though). There is also a pool and jacuzzi and very small gym. The price isn't too expensive compared to it being nice, but it was very hard to qualify, I had to have my parents cosign, and I'm 30, have over 30k saved and haven't missed a rent payment ever in my 13 years as a renter. Without my parents, I'm not sure how I could have found a place to live. One last down side is the downstairs apartments are always hearing the upstairs people moving around.
