Bellwood
This is a rent controlled apartment. The building itself is extremely old, but the management has been aggressively renovating. The largest units in this complex are still just studios with full kitchens, so most people live alone or are older folks just living with their spouse. I think the management gets around the lower cost for rent by charging insane amounts for parking (125 a month, not covered parking). There are two laundry rooms, coin operated. They are constantly renovating, so there is a lot of construction noise at all times. If you do not want to pay for parking, you have to purchase a permit with the city to park on the street, but it can be difficult to get a spot especially if you get back late at night. Generally, the perks of this complex are that most units are recently and newly renovated with stainless steel appliances, and the rent is quite cheap for a studio in LA. An additional plus is the proximity to Century City -- you're really close to the mall and a lot of law firms. It's also generally safe, as there are security cameras at the entrances of the complex. But, there was recently a murder here (one-time thing, personal grudge kind of situation). The management can sometimes take a while to respond.
