The Drake reviews and highlights
- Recently renovated
- Elevators are really quick
- Relatively quiet street
- Convenient amenities, but lacking some of the features of newer luxury buildings
- Great staff and responsive management
- Best value for price in Center City
- Close to Rittenhouse Square
- Nice, but small gym
- Laundry room is great
- Free heat and hot water is great, but the units can run really hot even in the winter
- Units are incredibly clean
- Very safe neighborhood
- Parking can be a challenge
- Lots of bars and restaurants nearby
- Sound-proof walls
- Lots of light on upper floors
- Great apartment building
- Friendly doorman staff
- Nice community feel
- Although the building is old, the interiors are very up-to-date
Cheap for a doorman building
The Drake is a decent building, relatively cheap for a doorman building.
Pros:
-Doormen are really nice
-Doormen, elevator, low rent
-Rooms are decently sized
-Large kitchen area with a lot of counter/bar space
-Close to bus stops and Indego station
Cons:
-No in-unit laundry (laundry costs 2.25 per load and is cash only, but only up to 20 dollar bills)
-Some issues with electricity (lots of small outages, had one really big outage that lasted 3 hours and was not planned)
-Maintenance is not good (first day I moved in, the ceiling in my bathroom started leaking urine from upstairs - took them a long time to fix. Also, heat is not strong and there are a lot of cold leaky spots from the air conditioner/crevices in the floor, etc.)
-Some windows are broken (but they are double insulated)
-Carpeting?
-4 elevators, 2 on each side of the building. Be sure to call and book an elevator for move in/move out well ahead of time, since they use up one of these 4 elevators (there's no freight elevator). These elevators are kind of slow and you don't know where they are on when you are waiting for them on your floor.
-The kitchen sink is tiny
-Living room kind of small
-One bathroom is small, the other is big (but the small one belongs to the bigger bedroom)
-The kitchen cabinets are not well cleaned before move in
-They charge water by the building
-Far from campus and all the other Wharton students if you go to Wharton

Amazing value!
The Drake is an amazing elevator building with affordable rent! It has everything you need and is clean and quiet! I am obsessed! The management helped to ensure I had everything I needed when I moved in. I've never had an issue with anything yet and the online portal is great!

The good 'ol Drake
The Drake is an iconic tall-rise building in Philly. The location cannot be surpassed, which is mostly what you are paying for. The quality of the place is fine, everything works and looks okay and clean. It's really quite a nice place, just you will definitely be paying a premium for the location.

Great location and building
Living at the Drake has been a great experience. It Is quiet and in a great location, not too far from Rittenhouse Square and close enough to the historical area of Philly. The management is great and I have no complaints! My neighbors and quiet and everyone looks out for each other. Although the rent is pricey, it is worth it.

The Drake
I absolutely love my apartment here at The Drake. I love the layout and the amount of space we get for what we pay. The amenities are also pretty great. Maintenance problems are quickly fixed and the front desk is very reliable. The gym isn't super extravagant, but it's good enough to get a solid workout in. The laundry room is well maintained and the price for each load isn't bad at all. Also, utilities for a 2BR/2Ba is on average $50/person, which is kind of great. The location of The Drake is also really nice. It is close to a lot of cafes, bars and restaurants. Only problem is that it can get a little bit noisy at night on any day except Sunday and maybe Monday. Another downside of living here is the lack of a parking garage for anyone with a car. One last caveat is that while I think the rent for my apartment is more than reasonable, the rent for studios and 1 bedrooms is kind of pricey. I don't think I'd choose to live here if I were looking for a studio or 1BR since the space and cost doesn't seem worth it. For 2BR apartments, I think that whether rent is worth the apartment is very much so dependent on the floor plan. Otherwise, I love living here and as long as rent doesn't change too much, I don't see myself moving any time soon!

The Drake
The Drake is a great place to live for a reasonable cost in the city. There is a gym and laundry room in the building. The front desk staff are all very nice. Service requests get taken care of pretty quickly. It's in an ideal location and is very close to the broad street line.

Rittenhouse Square Reviews
Spruce Street in particular is great - it's a little south of the square, so is quieter/shielded from a lot of the traffic that the neighborhood gets, but it's not out of the way or far away. There's a Starbucks, a grocery store (Rittenhouse Market), and a few corner stores (Four Seasons and Food & Friends) within a 2-3 minute walk of my apartment.
