Highly recommend - excellent staff and maintenance team, very close to campus

I would highly recommend Virginia Square Apts! All of the staff are so friendly, helpful, and care a lot about the residents. They have been very timely and responsive to any maintenance requests. The building and lobby area stay very clean. Gym is small, but equipment and space are new and great. Metro is right outside the apartment, and about a 4 min. walk to the law school. And, even better, my view overlooks the Washington Monument and Capitol! I like that I'm walking distance to Ballston and Clarendon (I have favorite restaurants in both!) and Virginia Square itself is pretty quiet which I enjoy.

Three Cheers for VA Square Apartments

On a practical level, I love that the complex is so close to campus, it makes for a quick commute to class. The building has a small gym and a rooftop pool with views of the Capitol and Washington Monument. As a busy student, it's nice to have these amenities on hand. From a professional standpoint, there is immediate access to the VA Square Metro stop, which is perfect for anyone hoping to secure an internship in nearby D.C. Due to the foregoing, this building houses many working professionals. It's a quiet residence, but neighbors and staff are friendly and polite.

Virginia Square

Getting the apartment itself is a huge hassle because their management process if very bureaucratic, inflexible, and unaccommodating. What I would like for GMU to do is set up partnerships with Equity Apartments or RentDitmarr to get us easier access into apartments, because moving here was genuinely difficult due to the high rents in the area.

Nice apartment for a decent price

This is a solid apartment building for a decent price. You can't get any closer to the metro (it's literally a 15 ft walk from the back entrance to the escalator) and it's situated right between Ballston and Clarendon, so you have very easy access to the Arlington nightlife but it's still quiet near the building itself. All the common areas were renovated in Winter 2017, including the rooftop, which has 2 gas grills, a small pool, and a distant but clear view of the Washington Monument and Capitol. It's an extra $50 a month to have a pet, and it seems like everyone in the building has one. Staff is very friendly and guest access to the building is very easy - I rarely have to come down to let friends in.

The price is decent, but has gone up both times I have renewed the lease. This will probably only get worse as Amazon moves to nearby Crystal City, but it is a pretty decent price considering the amenities (gas appliances, in unit washer/dryer, rooftop, small gym on the 19th floor that has a view of the city, and a nice club room with a pool table and wet bar).

Decent

Best quality of apartment is that it is right next to a metro stop, which makes getting to and from work and DC very convenient. Other apartments in the area have far better amenities (gym, pool etc.) but nothing terrible. Pet-friendly if that is something you are looking for. Have not had a problem with management.

Wonderful place to live, for a price

I love living at Virginia Square. The units are recently remodeled with stainless steel appliances and granite countertops in the kitchen and white tile in the bathrooms. All units have a washer and dryer. I almost never hear noise from my neighbors. My unit has a nice balcony with sliding doors from the living room and the bedroom that offer plenty of natural light.

I haven't interacted much with management, but the maintenance and front desk staff are wonderful. Service requests are handled quickly. The desk is staffed 24/7 so you'll never be locked out or wait to pick up a package.

Most of the amenities are located on the 19th floor. The pool is small but adequate considering it's on the roof. There is a gathering space you can rent to host parties. The gym is rarely crowded and should be enough for most people, but weightlifters will have to go elsewhere, because there are no barbells or racks. The terrace features some nice outdoor couches and grills which are great to use in the summer. Both the gym and the terrace offer views of the Washington monument. The only thing lacking from the amenity space is free wifi.

The location is directly next to the Virginia Square metro, it literally could not be closer. There is a Starbucks, a nail salon, and a deli/convenience store in the building. A grocery store is 2 blocks away. Virginia Square is about halfway between Clarendon and Ballston, so there are plenty of bars and restaurants within a ten minute walk. The neighborhood is very safe.

I have only good things to say about living in the building. The catch, of course, is the price. It's not cheap. The rent doesn't include any utilities, and a parking space in the garage is an additional monthly fee. If you can swing it, however, Virginia Square Apartments is a great place to live.

Anonymous Apartment Review

I have had a great experience. Great location and management is very responsive. Amenities include a pool and rooftop grills. Right next to metro and right near tons of bars and nightlife. Newly refurbished kitchens and bathrooms. Very safe neighborhood.

Pretty good

Good building and a nice location. Very dog friendly. Great bodega and Starbucks on ground floor. Building has a pool but it is tiny and only 3 feet deep, but nice rooftop grills and gym.
The management takes care of little things like light bulbs and batteries for fire alarms very quickly, it's great!

Love Virginia Square Apartments

The location of this apartment couldn't be better. It's amazing living literally a couple feet away from the Virginia Square Metro stop. Being next to the Orange and Silver line is really convenient since I work in Mclean, but still wanted to live close to DC and I didn't want to buy a car. The staff at Virginia Square is fantastic. They do a great job of being welcoming and responsive to any maintenance requests. I love my apartment!

Getting around Arlington

Arlington Reviews

372 reviews
Safe and friendly neighborhood. On a busy street, so the neighborhood is mostly behind the complex. Even then, the suburb behind the complex is small before you hit another highway. Very easily accessible by car, not very much by metro. Also, that accessibility comes with the cost that things do not feel very walkable in most directions. Living here almost necessitates having a car.
Pentagon City is a great experience that is only about to get better with the new Amazon building and the influx of youth it will bring. It is a ways from DC which makes getting with friends difficult because they don't want to come to Arlington, and getting to DC requires 30 minute notice and planning.
The neighborhood is very walkable and has very accessible public transportation. It's not somewhere you typically would go out at night since nightlife is nonexistent, but Amazon just moved in and there is semblance of that changing. It's great if you are active (many gyms, parks, and Mt. Vernon Trail Access), enjoy restaurants like Chick Fil A (one right outside my building), and want to be close to everything.
The property is set in a residential area that is pleasant and safe. Custis trail is nearby for running, biking, and walking. It provides easy and quick access to the city and Rosslyn. I love this trail.

MOM's market is on-site. I shop there occasionally but prefer the cheaper option of Giant down the street (a short drive or walk). The metro is a short and safe 5-minute walk away.

The building does sit right off Lee Highway, but I have never had any noise or other problems associated with this. I like how quickly I can pull onto the major road instead of navigating around crowded city traffic. I drive to school in under 5 minutes via Lee Highway.
Rosslyn is convenient for purposes of transportation and conveniences (food, bars, etc.). Additionally, it is between D.C. and the law school, so convenient to just about everything. There are some spots that aren't the safest and you wouldn't want to be walking alone in at night, but overall a great neighborhood.
Very clean, lots of restaurants and coffee shops. Some good outdoor spaces. Feels safe overall, but I had some weird experiences. Could potentially be a Ponzi scheme where a man approaches and is flirting with you, asks questions about your life and what you do...Happened to me twice with two separate guys in a similar manner. Maybe I'm just approachable but either way, it's fine overall, just be cautious like you would anywhere else. A few homeless people here and there, but honestly pretty scarce.
LOVE LOVE LOVE my neighborhood. I'm between dupont and u street, so it's not in the middle of it all, which I appreciate. I'm literally 2 blocks from 14th street where all the great restaurants/bars are. I'm also 5-7 mins walking distance to multiple grocery stores (Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Safeway). It's quiet enough to feel like I'm not in a city, but i'm steps away from being reminded that I am.
It's a great area as someone who is looking to live somewhere with easy access to popular sites but without having to live with the noisiness in the "center of it all." It's an easy walk to Clarendon (it's about 0.35 mi walk to Whole Foods, 0.7 mi walk to Trader Joes) and a quick stroll to the metro station (only about 0.2 mi walk). It's a mix of residential apartments and corporate offices, and is quieter but still with a strip of restaurants, coffee, medical offices, and nail/hair salons.
