Affordable, dog-friendly neighborhood with iffy management

I've recently renewed my lease at Charlton because overall, they are a good value for what you pay for. There is a fairly large dog park on site, which is the main reason I chose this complex in the first place despite it being farther from campus, and my 2 large dogs really enjoy it here. The neighborhood is also nice for going for walks and seems like it would be a good place for families. Another perk is that the parking is free and there has never been a time that there wasn't a spot available. The apartment itself is okay. There is a lot of space for the price, new appliances, and many units have a balcony and nice windows. However, I've had mixed experiences with the management, which has had some turnover in the year+ that I've lived here. One of the maintenance workers left a skylight in a common area open during a rainstorm once and it took ~20 minutes and several phone calls with rude workers to get this addressed. They also refused to put any kind of fans or drying devices in the hallways (despite me asking a few times), which makes me concerned about mold and the state of the building. My unit specifically hasn't had a problem with ceiling leaks, but I have several neighbors who have experienced water damage to their units. Airflow is pretty limited in these apartments and there aren't ceiling fans, so I would definitely recommend getting good fans to anyone considering this apartment. Interestingly, I have had mostly positive interactions with apartment staff otherwise and they do host social events every few months (though I have yet to attend any). Regardless, I am overall satisfied with my experience with this apartment.

Great value and very pet friendly!

I chose this apartment complex to ensure my dogs had somewhere with a lot of space and safe areas to walk. There is a well-maintained dog park just outside and the neighborhood is lovely and generally pretty quiet. Almost everything I need is walkable, though you do need to bus, bike, or drive to campus. The apartment itself is spacious, with new appliances and plenty of storage space. My complaints are pretty minor: there isn't an option for in-unit laundry (there are shared coin-operated laundry machines) and there is a minor leak issue with some of the skylights in the shared hallways. Regardless, the management and maintenance teams are typically very responsive to my needs.

Good value, albeit a little far from campus

Charlton Apartments has been good. The apartment unit is nice (especially for the price), and no complaints about management. It does require driving or biking to campus, though.
