Meets our needs but slow service

The Good: Perfect location. Spacious apartment with hardwood floors throughout. Really good heating. Gym partnership with Weston fitness, about 3 blocks away. Friendly doormen who know your name.
The Bad: When one of the two elevators broke, it took over 2 months to fix.

Amazing Location and Wonderful People

Right on the corner of S 19th and Walnut, this is the perfect location for my husband and me since we have a dog and my husband is a Wharton student. All the doormen, front desk, and maintenance workers are extremely friendly and professional. The building is smaller than others, making it easier to come and go. Our apartment has lots of windows and great lighting, I wish it was a little more updated in the appliances, the flooring, and and the bathroom. There is also no gym or garage, but there are plenty of studios and gyms close by and we tend to walk everywhere. There is a garage behind the building and others close by residents can use.
If you need storage they have areas you can rent in the basement.
Overall, we absolutely love our building!

Super conveniently located & great value

+ LOCATION, right at the top of Rittenhouse square, super convenient and central, Walnut St. bus picks up right outside to go to campus
+ Spacious floor plans (considerable difference in living room size with other Rittenhouse Square apts)
+ Upgraded units available, with hardwood floors, in-unit W/D, granite counter tops
+ Not much building noise between units
+ Doormen super friendly
+ Great value compared to other apartments in the area
+ Great sunlight (at least on the west side of the building)
+ If you face the right way, you can see Rittenhouse square out the window

- Street noise, might be the case with other buildings in the area
- Not many (no?) amenities (personal preference)
- Older building
- Some units aren't renovated so you'll have to check with the specific unit, might not have in-unit W/D so will have to go downstairs to the basement to do laundry
- Central A/C and heating so you can't control the exact temperature (common in older buildings). That said it's winter now and we can very easily adjust our heat high enough to stay warm (70+ degrees)
- Small bathroom
- Trash chutes are small so often have to go all the way downstairs to take out trash

1 bed at the Wellington

The Wellington has been a fantastic place to live. The building is well managed, the prices are very reasonable, and the location can't be beat (literally right next to the Square and across from La Colombe). More Wharton students should live here!

Great Value

The Wellington is one of the best deals in Philadelphia. I was able to get a studio under $1350 (with utilities included) right next to the Rittenhouse Square Park. Couldn't ask for much more.

Very Happy, Lived here All 3 Years of Law School

The Wellington is an EXCELLENT apartment building. The location is prime real estate--right off of Rittenhouse Square, with friendly doormen and staff. The area is fun and bustling, and I can walk anywhere I need to go (socializing in Center City and 25 min walk to school in U City). The ONLY drawback is that it is a pricier building, but I thought it was worth it. Highly, highly recommend.

Great Location

The building is very conveniently located on Walnut across from Rittenhouse square. Although the building is quite old (it's a pre-war building), all the units have been recently remodeled and have modern appliances. The building is quiet and building management is excellent. The one drawback to living in the Wellington is that there aren't many of the amenities that you'll see in other buildings surrounding the square - no gym, no business center, no common area to host parties, etc.

Rittenhouse Square Reviews

Walnut street is very safe - there's always people around and it's well lit. The neighborhood includes all of the fun aspects of living in Philadelphia - tons of access to food and bars, nearby grocery stores/markets, access to the parks and the Schuylkill River Trail
Very close to fun restaurants/bars/shops. Close to the subway as well as the train station (suburban station).
Rittenhouse is the safest part of Philly. It's a very "happening" part of town—lots of restaurants and bars on every street. At the same time, it's right next to more residential neighborhoods to walk around in and explore. It's a great place to live relatively close to the law school but with a degree of separation so as not to get trapped in the law school bubble.
The neighborhood is both quiet and lively. There is so much around, but I have never had an issue sleeping or studying because there is too much noise. The broad street line is a 10-15 minute walk away and we are close to shopping, food, the park, and the river trail. Has everything within a 10-15 walk.
This neighborhood has everything I need within walking distance. Shops, grocery stores, parks, the subway and trolley, post office. You name it. It's very safe and extremely quiet, which helps when I'm trying to study. The Rittenhouse Square area is really the best place to live in Philly if you don't mind paying a little more.
I love this neighborhood and knew I wanted to live here when beginning my apartment search. The park is one of my favorite places in the city, and I love being able to easily access all the restaurants and shopping nearby. It's also an easy (~20 minute) walk to Penn Law, and the walking commute has always been a nice and peaceful part of my day.

Spruce Street in particular is great - it's a little south of the square, so is quieter/shielded from a lot of the traffic that the neighborhood gets, but it's not out of the way or far away. There's a Starbucks, a grocery store (Rittenhouse Market), and a few corner stores (Four Seasons and Food & Friends) within a 2-3 minute walk of my apartment.
Love the neighborhood, Rittenhouse Square is beautiful and we are so close to the more commercial areas like Walnut Street while not being in the center of the craziness. Plus we are within walking distance of public transportation including 10 minutes from the 15/16 street PATCO station. I personally think it is one of the best areas of Philly to live in.
Rittenhouse Square has a park in the center surrounded by a bookstores, restaurants, and a public library. It is open to pets and often has open art / food markets on the weekends. It is close to the Broad Street Line and PATCO. There are many families who live in the area. It is affordable compared to other major cities (NYC, DC, Boston), but there are certainly more affordable areas in Philadelphia, simply without the luxury of being so close to Center City.
