Great location and excellent management, but no luxury amenities

Great location, right on the park with 21/42 bus stop directly outside the front door. Building is somewhat old but in good condition. Elevators run frequently, I almost never have to wait on the 15th floor. Laundry is paid and in the basement, but usually there are machines open. Apartments are in need of a refurbishment (older appliances, carpeting), but are generally in good condition. Management is very responsive, usually respond to maintenance requests within 24 hours. Doormen are really friendly. No extras (pool, gym, business center, etc.)

Great doorman building location at a great price

In my opinion, The Wellington is one of the best choices for Wharton student housing, though is underutilized. The building's location is the best -- right on the Walnut Street side of Rittenhouse Square (I have a view of the park), with the 21 and 42 bus stops just outside the door, as well as La Colombe Coffee. The management, doormen, and maintenance staff are all friendly and helpful whenever I need anything. Although the building lacks the gym, common room, and other amenities that some buildings have, rent covers electricity and utilities. The rent is also very affordable, as compared to similar buildings. Only drawback, in my opinion, is that my apartment's floors are carpeted. All in all, I am very happy with my decision.

Great value with friendly doorman near Rittenhouse.

Very happy with my experience. Hidden gem in Rittenhouse. Doormen are great, the building is clean. Only disadvantage is that the laundry is in the basement.

Love the location and well priced

On the pro's side: Amazing location at Rittenhouse square! Renovated building. Nice 24 hour doorman, great value for money, and low rent. On the cons side: Limited amenities (e.g. No gym, pool). Although studios cost less than $1100, they are really small

I wouldn't trade this for any other place.

I live in a 2 BR, excellent floor plan and very spacious. The doormen are very friendly and helpful. The response time for maintenance is generally great as well. It's convenient to have a bank, coffee shop and septa bus stop all within 30 seconds of stepping out.

Highly Recommend the Wellington!

Best value apartment in Rittenhouse square. Nice doorman, maintenance services. The building is not too big so you don't have to wait too long for the elevator. However, the building does not have gym facilities and the laundry room is in the basement. If you don't mind that, I believe this is one of the best.

Great building, perfect location

The Wellington is a great building in a perfect location. Located at 19th and Walnut, you're located in the middle of Rittenhouse Square. Pros: * Large apartments with full kitchens and good closet space. * Safe building with 24 hour doorman and friendly service. * Nice lobby with no wait for elevators (unlike 1500 Locust or Wannamaker). * All utilities included (excl. cable) and pet friendly. * Convient access to transportation: At 20th street and beyond, it is difficult to get on the bus or hail cabs. There is a bus stop at the corner of 19th and Walnut, the last stop before buses get too crowded to get on. Also, it is still possible to get taxis (still open at Walnut and many come down 19th street) * Mid-point between East & West Center City: Most students live between 15th and 22nd, so it sits at the midpoint. * Students started moving into this building a few years ago. * La Colombe coffee shop across the street. Cons: * Mid-priced rents for high rise building but much higher than brownstone options. * Coin operated washer machines in basement (no cards, not on same floor). Only 6 machines for entire building. * Limited overhead lighting. * Low floor apartments on backside of building look into multi-story parking lot. * Lots of old people in building.

The Wellington is great value for money

It is located on Rittenhouse Square on 19th and Walnut, a 25 min walk from Wharton. There is also a bus stop right as you exit from the building. The bedrooms are huge with attached bathrooms. The living room is sufficiently large as well with great views of the city skyline. We pay $2500 per month inclusive of utilities (which is unheard of in center city). There is no washerdryer in the unit but a laundry room is conveniently located in the building basement. The building staff is very friendly, welcoming and accommodating. The management even changed the carpeting of the apartment free of cost before we moved in because we didn't like the existing one. I highly recommend this building to any student planning to live in Center City.

Rittenhouse Square Reviews

Walnut street is very safe - there's always people around and it's well lit. The neighborhood includes all of the fun aspects of living in Philadelphia - tons of access to food and bars, nearby grocery stores/markets, access to the parks and the Schuylkill River Trail
Very close to fun restaurants/bars/shops. Close to the subway as well as the train station (suburban station).
Rittenhouse is the safest part of Philly. It's a very "happening" part of town—lots of restaurants and bars on every street. At the same time, it's right next to more residential neighborhoods to walk around in and explore. It's a great place to live relatively close to the law school but with a degree of separation so as not to get trapped in the law school bubble.
The neighborhood is both quiet and lively. There is so much around, but I have never had an issue sleeping or studying because there is too much noise. The broad street line is a 10-15 minute walk away and we are close to shopping, food, the park, and the river trail. Has everything within a 10-15 walk.
This neighborhood has everything I need within walking distance. Shops, grocery stores, parks, the subway and trolley, post office. You name it. It's very safe and extremely quiet, which helps when I'm trying to study. The Rittenhouse Square area is really the best place to live in Philly if you don't mind paying a little more.
I love this neighborhood and knew I wanted to live here when beginning my apartment search. The park is one of my favorite places in the city, and I love being able to easily access all the restaurants and shopping nearby. It's also an easy (~20 minute) walk to Penn Law, and the walking commute has always been a nice and peaceful part of my day.

Spruce Street in particular is great - it's a little south of the square, so is quieter/shielded from a lot of the traffic that the neighborhood gets, but it's not out of the way or far away. There's a Starbucks, a grocery store (Rittenhouse Market), and a few corner stores (Four Seasons and Food & Friends) within a 2-3 minute walk of my apartment.
Love the neighborhood, Rittenhouse Square is beautiful and we are so close to the more commercial areas like Walnut Street while not being in the center of the craziness. Plus we are within walking distance of public transportation including 10 minutes from the 15/16 street PATCO station. I personally think it is one of the best areas of Philly to live in.
Rittenhouse Square has a park in the center surrounded by a bookstores, restaurants, and a public library. It is open to pets and often has open art / food markets on the weekends. It is close to the Broad Street Line and PATCO. There are many families who live in the area. It is affordable compared to other major cities (NYC, DC, Boston), but there are certainly more affordable areas in Philadelphia, simply without the luxury of being so close to Center City.
