Very Happy with our 2-bed, 2-bath apartment in the Wanamaker

My fiancee and I have been very happy in our 2-bed, 2-bath apartment in the Wanamaker. The apartment layout is very functional, the building staff is nice and responsive, and the views are great. Honestly the only negative is the fact that the windows are a little thin, so the wind outside can be noisy at times. That said, renewing our lease after one year was a no-brainer.

Nice apartment for Wharton students

The Wanamaker's Location is very good. Very convenient location for school and center city restaurants and bars. Can take bus #21 or #42 right in front of the building or walk to Huntsman in 25 mins. Also, only 3 blocks away from 2401 student center so very convenient to have group meetings on weekends. However, during peak time (10:15am), buses are too crowded so that drivers skip the bus stop sometimes. But it's usually pretty easy to find 3~4 people to share a cab fare almost any time. There are a lot of restaurants and bars nearby so it's very convenient. The thing is that in September, it's very noisy outside (particularly because of Irish pub). The price is pretty decent--1400ish for a studio and 1800ish for an 1bed which is much cheaper than 1500 Locust, but more expensive than 1930 Chestnut. Taking to account the location and overall amenities, I believe the price is pretty decent. Security and amenities are very good. We have 24hrs doormen (two in the day time and one in the night) who are pretty strict to non-resident people. I feel very safe with security people who know my face and name perfectly. Also, there is a cozy gym for 10~ people and a outdoor pool on the rooftop. I always run into Wharton people in the gym, which could be an advantage or a disadvantage for you.

Great place.

It is my all time favorite apartment I have ever lived in. The doormen are absolutely wonderful. I love them and they even played a role in our engagement! If we ever move back to Philadelphia, I will absolutely live here.

Old and dated, but the staff is great

Apt is very spacious with lots of light but bathroom and kitchen fixtures are a bit outdated. Location is super convenient and the doormen are all really friendly and helpful.

Great value

Great value vs. other building. Great space, doorman and gym. The pool is a nice touch for the summer. Major negative is no subletting in summer.

Wanamaker - Great location and value

The centrally located Wanamaker is a haven for many Wharton students. The apartment sizes are generous and the building offers a full suite of amenities from a rooftop pool and gym to a built in parking garage. Since this is a condo building, each unit may have slightly different finishes and appliances, so it is important to view the unit before signing a lease. All in all, the doormen are very pleasant, the location is unbeatable and the Wanamaker offers up some of the best value in the Rittenhouse Square Center City neighborhood.

The Wanamaker House is a great place to live!

Overall, I am very happy with my apartment. It's in a central location, has 24-hr securitydoormen and has a swimming pool and gym. The only annoying thing is that they do not allow subletting and rent is a bit pricey compared to other places.

Rittenhouse Square Reviews

Walnut street is very safe - there's always people around and it's well lit. The neighborhood includes all of the fun aspects of living in Philadelphia - tons of access to food and bars, nearby grocery stores/markets, access to the parks and the Schuylkill River Trail
Very close to fun restaurants/bars/shops. Close to the subway as well as the train station (suburban station).
Rittenhouse is the safest part of Philly. It's a very "happening" part of town—lots of restaurants and bars on every street. At the same time, it's right next to more residential neighborhoods to walk around in and explore. It's a great place to live relatively close to the law school but with a degree of separation so as not to get trapped in the law school bubble.
The neighborhood is both quiet and lively. There is so much around, but I have never had an issue sleeping or studying because there is too much noise. The broad street line is a 10-15 minute walk away and we are close to shopping, food, the park, and the river trail. Has everything within a 10-15 walk.
This neighborhood has everything I need within walking distance. Shops, grocery stores, parks, the subway and trolley, post office. You name it. It's very safe and extremely quiet, which helps when I'm trying to study. The Rittenhouse Square area is really the best place to live in Philly if you don't mind paying a little more.
I love this neighborhood and knew I wanted to live here when beginning my apartment search. The park is one of my favorite places in the city, and I love being able to easily access all the restaurants and shopping nearby. It's also an easy (~20 minute) walk to Penn Law, and the walking commute has always been a nice and peaceful part of my day.

Spruce Street in particular is great - it's a little south of the square, so is quieter/shielded from a lot of the traffic that the neighborhood gets, but it's not out of the way or far away. There's a Starbucks, a grocery store (Rittenhouse Market), and a few corner stores (Four Seasons and Food & Friends) within a 2-3 minute walk of my apartment.
Love the neighborhood, Rittenhouse Square is beautiful and we are so close to the more commercial areas like Walnut Street while not being in the center of the craziness. Plus we are within walking distance of public transportation including 10 minutes from the 15/16 street PATCO station. I personally think it is one of the best areas of Philly to live in.
Rittenhouse Square has a park in the center surrounded by a bookstores, restaurants, and a public library. It is open to pets and often has open art / food markets on the weekends. It is close to the Broad Street Line and PATCO. There are many families who live in the area. It is affordable compared to other major cities (NYC, DC, Boston), but there are certainly more affordable areas in Philadelphia, simply without the luxury of being so close to Center City.
