Love the building, very expensive

I love everything about living at 2116 chestnut, except for the rent. My apartment is new, updated, clean, floor to ceiling windows, large closets, has a doorman, and includes a great gym and amenity floor. It is a quick walk to work (~20 min from CHOP/Penn). The management is excellent, and fixes anything that breaks within a day. It is very quiet, I have never heard a peep from my neighbors or upstairs. My only gripe is the rent. My unit is a corner unit on a high floor with a balcony, so you could find a 1BR on a lower floor for a little bit cheaper.

Apt review

Outstanding location and amenities. Very nice luxury clean apartments. Maintenance excellent as is management and remainder of staff. Love the location - near great restaurants/gyms/cafes/bars, 20 minutes walk from the hospital, ~5 minute walk to Rittenhouse Square. On the pricier side.

Mostly great

Good: gym, distance to Penn campus, distance to Rittenhouse Square, print center, quiet, large apartments. This is a big upgrade coming from NYC.

Bad: poor blinds on windows, especially in the morning if you're facing east, mice on 5th floor outdoor patio, lack of responsiveness from management (and annoying emails - no live Xmas trees)

Great experience!

I love the building. Most of the Wharton community lives there, and it is easy from a social perspective. The common rooms are great, we do a lot of events there. I strongly recommend having a wooden floor instead of carpet.
Overall, great experience!

Wharton Mothership

We all live here; there's a tremendous advantage to that. It's the place to be; lots of events take place here, I can easy meet up to work with fellow students. Place is very nice and the management is lovely & responsive. Kinda pricey for Philly but you'll find the same situation at 1919 Market, Riverloft etc.

2116 Chestnut

This building has 100+ Wharton students so the moving process was very easy and accommodating for students. The 1BR apts are ~750 square feet, which is plenty of space for a couple. There is good storage space and the kitchen stuff is nice and new. It's a bit on the pricey side and they don't allow subletting in the summer. Management isn't very responsive, but maintenance requests are addressed very quickly.

Fitler Square Reviews

83 reviews
Pros: close to school as well as all the fun stuff downtown (Schuylkill River Trail, restaurants, bars, museums, theaters, shopping, you name it!); very safe even walking alone late at night; lots of other students here
Cons: Trader Joe's is the only real grocery store here and may have limited selection for those looking for a supermarket; not as quiet or "neighborhood-y" as other areas, as it is in the heart of downtown; there is a freight train that runs along the river that can be loud, though I got used to it quickly
Fitler square is primarily behind Riverloft (which faces Walnut). You're really in Center City. The Fitler square neighborhood is amazing for walks with dog, running, hanging out in the park, small cuter-type restaurants, etc. Probably more attractive to couples, families, and lower-key students. A little bit of a walk (10 minutes) for bar scene, with exception to Pub and Bonners.
Fantastic neighborhood. Close to Fitler Square and Rittenhouse Square. Right next to a gym. 3 minutes from a grocery store and 15 minutes from Trader Joes. Close to several bus stops. Lots of coffee shops and cafes nearby.

Possible con: 25 minute walk to and from campus or having to take the bus
Love that there's a dog park, restaurants, and shopping nearby. Very close to Penn campus if you're a student. For MBA students, the workspace is right across the street.
Great living here - it's in the center of everything. Getting to school is an easy walk or bus ride and the opposite direction is the old city and center city bars and restaurants. Area is very safe, within walking distance is a rite aid and a trader joes.
22nd/Chesnut is an amazing location -- super convenient to shopping, transit to/from school, and close to the river for exercise and outdoors. A bit on the fringes of 'Wharton Society', but has not impacted my experience in the least.
Dearth of grocery stores (Trader Joe's is king); a good sprinkling of restaurants; being near the Schuylkill river is good for runners
Really close to 2401 and super convenient to trader joes. About 15 minutes walking to huntsman hall or a 6 minute uber ride.
