Downtown

Lively Urban Experience
Downtown Winston Salem is well-known for its vibrant and lively personality. In 2017, both the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times ranked this neighborhood the second best downtown to live in the United States. With plenty of places to shop, eat, and socialize, Downtown is a much sought after place to live. The area has enjoyed revitalization in recent years, resulting in a rich experience for residents. The historic tobacco warehouses and knitting mills of the area’s farming and industrial history are now beautiful urban lofts, surrounded by restaurants, music halls, the Arts District, and theaters, For a step into history, the Old Salem Museums & Gardens can’t be missed. It’s a restored 18th century town with lovely gardens and shops. For convenience, grocery shopping is a snap - residents can opt to drop into either the local Whole Foods Market or Publix Super Market.

The restaurant and bar scene is eclectic and full of highly rated and highly recommended options. Restaurants in the area include Di Lisio’s Italian Restaurant, Jeffrey Adams on Fourth, Bernardin’s Restaurant, and Spring House Restaurant, Kitchen & Bar. For nightlife, many young adults and college students enjoy socializing at the Burke Street Pub, The Quiet Pint Tavern, Vintage Sofa Bar, and Tate’s Craft Cocktails. For people who want a home right in the midst of a lovely and lively urban neighborhood, Downtown Winston-Salem is a perfect fit.

Closer to the Old Salem area, but still walking distance to downtown. Right near the Strollway so good for those who like to run/walk. A few good restaurants and coffee shops within a 3 minute walk and other stores/restaurants are easily accessible within a 5-10 minute drive. It only takes around 10 minutes to drive to campus.

The area is very safe. I routinely run/walk through downtown and have never had a reason to be concerned about safety for any reason. There are several bars, breweries, restaurants, and coffeeshops within a 5min walk of the apartment building.

So much better living downtown than near campus, you actually feel you are part of a bigger town/city and there are things to do.

The innovation quarter is one of the best neighborhoods in Winston, especially if you are young and enjoy doing things socially. Some of the property's in the neighborhood are dated and not as clean as one would hope, but Links stands above all the rest.

A little noisy at night for light sleepers, but is close to everything. Not ideal for those trying to take the bus to campus, however.
