Downtown

Humble Beginnings to the City’s Heart
Downtown Minneapolis, or Central Minneapolis, was not always the city-life oasis it is known as today. It had humble beginnings when it was established in 1856, made up of sawmills and flour mills. Eventually, the Downtown neighborhood of Minneapolis transitioned into the commercial center of the city. Apartment buildings, skyscrapers, and office buildings now dominate Downtown. A famous landmark in town that many of the residents of Downtown like to visit is Guthrie Theater. This theater holds live performances on three different stages with several dining and bar options inside.

Downtown has great eateries scattered all throughout town. Bars and restaurants are plentiful, there is always a place to grab a quick bite or drink. Restaurants in the area include The Capital Grille, Zelo, Barrio, Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery, FireLake Grill House & Cocktail Bar, and Valentino Cafe. Bars that are great for drinks on a night out include Brit's Pub, Prohibition Bar, Living Room, Bar Zia, and Truth Bar. Downtown is the place to live for anyone who wants to be at the center of Minneapolis’s action.
