The town is perfect for any college student who wants a laid back environment that is also close to their classes. Right by town is the University of St. Thomas and Macalester College. The park features large green space that is dog-friendly, basketball courts, baseball fields, and soccer fields.

Although it is a small town, Merriam Park still has plenty of food and drink options. Many of the locals love to socialize while at a restaurant or bar on their days off. Merriam Park — 9/10 Rating (based on 1 neighborhood reviews)
Mostly "real adults" live in the neighborhood, some families with small kids, and some college renters. My building seems to be full of mostly professional/grad student-aged renters, with a few others maybe in their 30s or 40s.
Very walkable, but not a lot of groceries. A lot more restaurants available if you go out towards the Macalaster area. Merriam Park itself is a nice spot to throw out a blanket and read. I also want to plug Marshall/Cretin Autocare. They are extremely friendly and I can drop my car off there and walk back to my apartment very easily when I've had car trouble. Usually the 134 commuter bus runs about 2 blocks away and will take you to downtown Minneapolis during morning rush hour, but I don't think it's been running during the pandemic. Commute to UMN West Bank takes about 35 minutes by transit or 10-12 minutes driving. I marked this neighborhood as affordable, but I'm not entirely sure. There are some really "nice" houses but also a lot of smaller apartment buildings and smaller houses. My apartment was a lot more affordable for the size compared to apartments closer to campus or in most parts of Minneapolis.
