James Island

Forever Small Town
James Island is a residential area that is set on protecting their small-town feel and atmosphere. The town is placed along the Charleston Harbor and is flanked by the Folly and Stono Rivers. James Island is most well-known for its involvement with the Revolutionary War. It was the location of the last known armed action against the British in the entire war. This has cemented James Island as a historic site in American history, and has attracted many people as a wonderful neighborhood to live in ever since.

There are plenty of places to eat and drink on James Island, each with its own unique flair and twist. Many of them are highly recommended by the locals and are definitely worth a visit for any newcomers. Restaurants include Bohemian Bull, Charleston Crab House, Smoky Oak Taproom, Great Wall, and Mondo's Italian Restaurant. Bars in the area include Obrions Pub, Harbor View Tavern, The Break, and Stag Erin Pub. James Island is a great spot to live for those who want to live on an island that embraces small-town culture and traditional values.

I don't really have many bad things to say here. Most of my classes are at Grice Marine Lab, which is only a 10 minute drive from Riverland. Plus Folly Beach is just 10 minutes away, and whenever I have to drive downtown it's a 10-15 minute drive depending on traffic. It's perfectly located and really the only downside is that traffic can get bad at times, especially when getting onto the connector. There's tons to do on James Island though, lots of restaurants and everything else you'd need.

Neighbors are nice for the most part. If you have a dog, there is a group of people who goes to the dog park in the complex pretty regularly and everyone knows each other.

I love living on James Island!!! Great place to live, a lot of places are walkable and the parks are great. Not far from Folly Beach or Downtown! Traffic on Folly Road can be rough at times.

James Island is a suburban area with lots to offer. Many good restaurants and breweries, as well as greenery, nature, and historic sites. No shortage and a wide variety of grocery stores and other retail options. Easy access to Folly Beach, West Ashley, and downtown.
