Eagle Heights

Apartment Building Community
Eagle Heights is located on the northwest edge of UW-Madison’s campus. This neighborhood is full of apartment buildings surrounded by woods and right around the corner from Lake Mendota. Here you can enjoy a nice picnic while the little ones have fun on the playground area. You will also find a central community center, a hub for social events and programs that bring neighbors together, and one of the oldest community gardens in the United states. At the garden, rent out plots to grow your own food! Go shopping at Orange Tree Imports and check out a few of the science museums around.

Eagle Heights — 8.4/10 Rating (based on 9 neighborhood reviews)
The neighborhood is very pleasant. Lots of families and green spaces to walk/run. It is quiet and uncrowded in Eagle Heights. The surrounding neighborhood of Shorewood Hills is great and the picnic point trail area is close by.

It's tucked away behind the hospital which means that it isn't loud and is very peaceful. The flip side is that there really isn't any restaurants within walking distance though. The 80 bus goes everywhere on UW's campus and goes right through Eagle Heights which is a huge plus for students. It's very affordable since it's subsidized by the university.

There are tons of parks within Eagle Heights for kids, all of them just a walk away. You're so close to line 80 which runs about every 10 minutes or so, depending on the time of day. It's a very quiet and safe neighborhood, and is very family friendly. Not much nearby in terms of restaurants, and the closest grocery store is Copps which is about a 5 - 10 minute drive away (no bus line goes out that way from Eagle Heights).
