Capitol —
8.9/10 Rating
(based on 82 neighborhood reviews)
Plenty of restaurants and bars in walking distance. Grocery store right across the street which is so convenient. Several bus stops nearby to make getting around without a car easy. Very safe.

Great location! In a residential area, so you don’t have to listen to people yelling and waking from bar to bar like you would if you lived closer to downtown. With that said, you are only 2 blocks from the Capitol and 3-4 blocks from state street. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy the Madison night life but still be able to go home and sleep in peace.

Being so close to everything - restaurants, bars, the overture, the comedy clubs, the capital square - there is always something going on. Despite that, you can't Hear the neighborhood from your apartment- the walls are thick. The best of both worlds!
Also, I feel super safe here in this building. The fire department is connected to our building- but you barely hear them (even being right over them). They usually - at least at night- try to start their sirens once they go down the street. Keep reading

10 minute walk to the Business School. Small grocery store 1 block away. There can be noise on weekends or game days, but we don't mind -- usually only hear it if windows are open. Walkable to bars and restaurants near the capitol square, as well as State St and campus. Close to bike path and easy jog to either Lake Monona or Lake Mendota. We love it!

The neighborhood is great, there is a CVS located on the first floor. There is a bar, Echo Tap, located right across the street. It is also very close to the Kohl center. The Capitol, the university, and State Street are also within walking distance.

Great location--bus route runs right by the building straight to Grainger, a ~5 minute bus ride which is a nice option for the winter months. Otherwise walking to Grainger takes 10-12 minutes, not too long at all.

Incredibly close to campus and State street. 5-10 minute walk to the new recreation center. It isn't quiet on weekends due to the sizeable undergraduate scene. Also, since you are on the main strip, emergency vehicles drive by at least two times a day.

Close enough to all the fun parts of downtown Madison/the Capitol, but not so much where it will keep you up at night. Sometimes hard to find parking if you have friends over. The parking garage at the apartment is heated, but it costs $170/month for a spot.

It's a nice, relatively quiet neighborhood. It's right around apartments other students rent out and not far from stores/retaurants. I have no complaints about the neighborhood. It's just off campus but still very close.

Ovation is located a few blocks from the Capitol and just a block from the upper portion of State Street. The property is a short walk to the UW campus, downtown Madison, and both Lake Monona and Lake Mendota. Although is has more of an "urban" location, the property manages to feel quiet and secure.

This part of the Capitol neighborhood is very safe and picturesque. The street is lined with trees and beautiful apartments. It is located close to Lake Monona and the paved bike trail which takes you around the lake and to school. It is slightly more quiet than the State Street location, but not a far walk if you want to go out to the bars. Many MBAs and working professionals live in this area.

I've always felt comfortable in this neighborhood, and there is also enough activity to feel social. Football days such as Packer's game days are fun to hear the crowds at echo but it's typically quiet in this area. I find it convenient to have the CVS and a restaurant nearby and it's walking distance to classes.

Great location near all of the restaurants/bars and other nightlife locations. It is also just a 15-20 minute walk to the Business school, so I'm able to walk everyday. If the weather is bad, the bus line is also conveniently right outside the door to the building.

Great neighborhood - close to school (only about a 10 minute walk from my apartment) and easy to get to lots of fun bars and restaurants. Parking can be a little tough, though. Most people have to pay for parking at their apartments, which isn't cheap. Ours is $175/month!
