Great location, Duke Forest is in your backyard

The good: Spacious apartments, 5 minutes from Duke Law, in a quiet and safe area that backs up on Duke Forest. Neighbors are friendly. A great place to live with my young son, we feel very safe and love having an entrance to the Duke Forest trails 2 minutes from our door. The bad: The buildings are older, and sometimes maintenance can take a while to fix minor problems (they had a COVID related staffing shortage for a while but are back to being fully staffed now). Because you're so close to the forest there are lots of bugs outside in the summertime, and they will find a way to sneak into your apartment.

Livable and outdoorsy

Not luxury but has everything you need. I love that it has a screened in porch and is right next to the Duke forest trails for running. Affordable and only an 8 minute drive to the hospital and med school.

Review

CV Deerfield has several notable perks. It is very accessible to Duke and downtown Durham while being located next to the Duke Forest giving a more secluded, peaceful feel. The neighboring American Village is a wonderful place to walk/run. Each apartment has a screened in porch which is a major plus and for the price this is a good deal. Downsides include less than ideal starting conditions of the apartment (stove, fridge were archaic), though staff responded somewhat promptly to these complaints. Additionally we had a pest issue and despite paying monthly for pest services had to routinely prompt staff to put us on the list for pest prevention.

Fine Apartment

The GoDurham bus currently has a stop across the road from the apartment complex. It is rumored to be moving to down the street in January. Still pretty close, need to walk a few minutes. The bus goes by Duke.

Great Apartment Complex

Great apartment with Duke Forest in backyard. We love the porch and space in our apartment, especially for the price. The staff kindly replaced our countertops and fridge, which were quite old when we moved in. Only downsides are mediocre gym, lack of overhead lights in the apartment. Overall we are super happy living here; it is great bang for your buck.

Good experience at Colonial Village

Colonial Village apts is super affordable and a good deal for the money. It is a 10 min drive from TSCHE and includes a (somewhat dinky) gym and free parking. I think the biggest bonus are the screened in porches overlooking the forest out back and the proximity to Duke Forest!

Colonial Village - review

We really like our apartment at colonial village. It is in Duke Forest and is surrounded by so many trails. The apartment itself is large and very nice, and the complex has a great pool and big hammock area. The main downside we have experienced is cockroaches. Other than that, we are very happy here.

Not very good

Place is ok. We have had fruit flies since moving in. Rooms are small. Apt is old, does not include new appliances. Lost power a few times, probably due to living in duke forest. You can find far better quality for this price point.
