Affordable but a bit dirty

The apartment complex has trash on the ground that people throw away such as plastic cups and newspaper. However, this is a quiet neighborhood and is affordable. The view from the balcony is nice because you can see nature

Flooding and Mold

We had a negative experience with University Commons. We lived in a ground floor/basement unit and struggled with damp, and the maintenance staff failed to fix the problem. After a particularly bad storm, the living room flooded, and we found that the problem was worse than we thought. The wall behind one of our bookshelves had turned black with mold. I would not recommend living here because, while the location is great and the units seem updated, I do not think they were well maintained at all.

Apartment Benefits

The Apartment is located 3 minutes away from West Campus, via bus or car and 15 minutes if walking. The bus passes every 30 minutes and goes directly on West campus. Very safe place to stay and the maintenance team is good. They have regular socials at the apartment pool and give aways. The appliance are in very good condition.

Affordable and comfortable

University Commons is an affordable and well maintained apartment complex that is just a 20 minute walk to campus. The campus buses are just a 7-8 minute walk and this is within the Duke Vans area.
The maintenance staff isn't too responsive but the management is courteous and keep planning activities for residents.
I would recommend these apartments to international students.

Just OK

The apartments in University Commons are adequate but not nice. The neighborhood is sketchy and management isn't the most friendly.

University Commons

The main pro of University Commons is the low price point and convenience with transportation to Fuqua via buses and the Duke van service. The buildings are older units and don't have the amenities like the newer larger complexes. Maintenance issues arise frequently and are often slow to be resolved. Would only recommend the apartment if price is top priority.

Cheap and Quiet!

My place is perfect if you want to live alone and don't want to spend a lot of money. This place is super reasonable and it is bikable to campus. It is not in the Station9 area so you are a little disconnected which could be seen as a perk or a detriment depending on your personality. I like having the space and its quiet.

Perfect location for Duke PA students

Located a few miles away from the Duke Physician Assistant Program building, Duke campus, and Duke University Hospital, this is the perfect location to live as a Duke PA student! There is a DATA bus stop at the corner, two pools in the complex, and two gyms as well. It has everything you need. It is also a walkable distance to the Durham Greyhound/Megabus bus station and downtown.

Duke Central Campus Reviews

Safe and quite neighborhood. Constant patrol by Duke police. close to university gym and trail. Whole foods, main street and 9th street are steps away.
There have been a couple of crimes reported on and around Swift Avenue in the last couple of months. I have ever unsafe but it needs to be kept in mind that incidents do happen and people should be aware of how to keep themselves safe. No incidents have happened in the 300 Swift complex.
Very safe, there are duke police and security guards around entry points to the building
Several security incidents nearby including sexual assault. Homeless frequently on the street are sometimes aggressive.
