Med center court apts review

Medical center court is a great option for med students who want to live within walking distance of the hospital and downtown Ann Arbor. While the apartments are generally older and have not been renovated in a while, they are more fairly priced compared to many other properties in the surrounding white coat area/Kerrytown. Mckinley staff are very receptive to maintenance requests and residents' concerns and the property is safe and quiet. It is also convenient that parking is included in the rent. If you live in a two-bedroom with a roommate, you each get a parking spot.

Solid spot

Recommend medical center court or any of the surrounding spots (riverside apartments, neilsen court, etc.) for people from out of town who don't know ann arbor. You can definitely find better places in kerrytown but it's a bit trickier.

Overpriced, low quality

I would advise living somewhere else. The plus side is that it is close to the medical campus. The overall quality of the walls, carpet, linoleum, appliances, is very low grade. only 2 burners work on the stove, I’ve had to get the sink fixed multiple times, and the refrigerator randomly leaked water all over the floor. The carpet looks grungy even after vacuuming. I’ve had my AC set at 62 in the summer, constantly running, and it still never got below 72.

Over the past year, packages have been repeatedly stolen and sketchy people have been reported loitering in the foyers. The laundry is also overpriced (3.50 per load).

When I signed the lease, Zontise mentioned being willing to accept late rent because my benefits come in a little later. Instead I’ve gotten late fees from the corporate office. She seldom goes to bat for residents.

At this price point and location, I would advise trying to find a beekman apartment if you can afford it. I also think Nielsen condos is a much better alternative. Island drive is similarly overpriced.

I’ve asked to move out and sublet the remainder of my lease but apparently I can’t do that either, so I’m stuck here till the summer. All in all I’d recommend living somewhere else.

Good for medical students

One of the few properties that allows pets, many medical students live here due to the close proximity to the hospital and medical school with multiple bus lines nearby as well. Slightly overpriced, but most apartments in Ann Arbor are. Management is reliably responsive to concerns.

Great location, but its an expensive and old apartment

The location is great and is only a 10 minute walk from the medical school. However, the apartment is old and has problems with flooding, mold, and an old heating system. You also have to pay for all the utilities on top of rent. There are likely better value apartments in the same area.

Med Center Court - White Coat Area Review

Med center court is a great option if you want to be walking distance from the hospital and also only a 20 minute walk to all of the restaurants/activities downtown. Parking is included which is often hard to come by in AA. The units are no-frills and simple, but they are generally spacious, quiet, and maintenance requests/concerns are answered quickly by management. Some units may be quieter than others (e.g., some units are more tucked away from the street/construction and I would recommend those if you value peace and quiet). I would also recommend trying to secure a 3rd floor unit as these tend to be quieter, but in general, the community consists of mainly med/grad students and is quiet and safe. The 2 bedrooms are also pretty big and good value for Ann Arbor (especially if living with a partner or roommate).

Everything I Need

Overall, I have had a very good experience at Medical Center Court for the last 4 years. Zontise Springer (apartment manager) is so sweet and very accommodating. I have been able to negotiate carpet cleaning and floor changes upon renewing my lease. The appliances and some of the AC units are pretty old, but they work! Good amount of closet space. You share the washer/dryer with the other tenets in the building, but I have never had a problem being able to do laundry when I want to. There is no covered parking, my car has survived. They do a good job of taking care of the outdoor areas during all seasons.

Med Center Court

Location is great, if you want to be close to the hospital! Pretty quiet. Staff is very responsive to maintenance requests. I wish there was central AC (there's a unit in the living room and in the larger bedroom; my room just gets hot in the summer without it). I also would appreciate more windows! The fitness center isn't great - one treadmill, a bench, some dumbbells - so I typically go to a campus gym still.

North Campus is the place to be!! Lots of trails and nature for walking, NCRB gym nearby, grocery stores, gas, food, and more. Mostly graduate students up here so quieter but also within 10 min drive to downtown. There's always parking too.
I have lived in A2 for going on 14 years, it is sort of like having a friend, even when you are alone.

Me and a friend and her dog visit neighborhood parks.

That dog met the caged bald eagle at Leslie Science Center.. and twang!
To the end of his leash! The eagle looked at him like he was the most delicious thing he's seen all Winter. We just trudged thru the snow to view the cages, (both eagle and dog are ok)
Great quieter area very close to the hospital, and close to many other med students. It’s a more peaceful area that’s a tad farther from downtown, but for someone who likes a quieter space to study or nice spaces to walk and hang out with friends, white coat area is right by the river and Island Drive Park, and there are often med student social events held at White Coat Area because so many medical students choose to live here.
I personally really like North Campus, although it is farther away from downtown and the law school. There are several restaurants right near my apartment complex and the commute to school is very easy. I also find the lack of nightlife a plus, because it means the neighborhood is a lot quieter and safer than other areas of Ann Arbor.
Overall this area is great for walking to the medical school and hospital, living near other medical students, and especially having easier parking than in the central downtown/kerrytown areas. You also escape the rowdiness of undergrads by living here. The main reason I gave it a "7/very good" rating was because I don't like feeling isolated in location from central campus. Walking from White Coat to restaurants/bars downtown is at least 20-25 minutes, and often I decide not to go just because I don't want to walk there and back. After 6PM everyday parking is free downtown (free all day on Sunday), which is nice, except you don't always want to drive if you are going out to bars. It would be nice to have some type of casual coffee shop or restaurant in walkable distance to White Coat, but there is not. (edit: there is one breakfast-like cafe near White Coat, but it gets busy and is over-priced). There are some restaurants and coffee shops down the street on Plymouth road (not downtown) which is an easy 5 minute drive.
Multiple apartment/condo complexes within 10 minute walk of one another creating central location for many medical students of the University of Michigan. Park is 5 minute walk away. Lecture halls are 15 minutes door to hall. Hospital is 15-20 minutes from door to specific area of hospital. Never any safety issues. Parking can be strict and limited. Few stores and restaurants nearby.
This neighborhood is a 10 minute walk to the hospital which makes is very popular for medical students, residents, and even attendings. It is quiet, but it can be very busy in the morning and around 4pm when everyone is arriving/leaving their shifts. Grocery stores, cafes, and restaurants are a 5 min drive away near north campus.
Pros: beautiful - near the Huron River (5 min walk!) and trails and lots of trees. Very quiet. Residential area - maybe only 20% students vs. long-term residents where I am, though I'm close to the hospitals and med students, architects, and engineers all live up here. Very safe, and I see deer or even a raccoon once in a while. Grocery store is 1 mile away (Kroeger).

Cons: less social than I like in terms of proximity to Rossers. There is only one on my street that I know of.
