Worse place to call home
I lived in the area for long time, and knew and always wanted to move to this place (mainly because of its location), despite its bad reviews posted everywhere. I thought people were overreacting, but I was wrong! Not enough people post their experiences with this community! They have very high tenant turnover rate, No wonder. Owners do not live there, units are leased mostly through real estate agencies or agents. Landmark Realty Group LLC manages lots of units. It is run by three absolutely crazy, rude, incompetent women. You never meet or know the owners. If there is an issue (and they always occur in 70+ year old buildings), you are in trouble, because you cannot address them with the building management, and you do not know the owner - so, good luck!
I moved in May, and bad things started right away: AC was not working, they moved and placed a huge outdoor AC unit that was just outside my window, of course making incredible noise.
Now comes the management and maintenance staff. This is beyond the pale! I lived most of my life in rental communities, but I never encountered or experienced anything like that! The rudeness and un-professionalism is just astounding! No matter what issue or concern you have, they just YELL at you, and then blame you for yelling at them, to the point that the West building property manager forbade me to ever enter HER office again! And my real estate agency - Landmark Realty - forbade me to ever address them or show up in its office, which is located on the community premises.
In short - very noisy place, I hear my neighbours through vents and outlets, incredible outside noise all the time, even at night, bed bugs and roaches, the rudest and most un-professional staff, issues with AC, hot water. They charge for bike storage, so most people take their bikes into units. They go into your units for inspections without any advanced notice or warning, and then blame you if you object.
So, all bad reviews of this place are very accurate, please take them into consideration. River place, being co-op, will be closed and probably demolished by 2050s, and despite located in such a beautiful urban Arlington location, is the WORST place to call home, even temporarily.

It's nice enough
Management really is on top of everything, it's in a safe neighborhood. It's far away from campus, though.

Great area!
Rosslyn is great, I'm close to a lot of grocery options and places to eat. I'm two blocks from the metro. RP has a pool, a gym, an on-site barber shop and convenience store, and is gated. I feel safe where I am and the people who work in the building are extremely kind. Laundry costs about $3 per load to wash and dry, and the laundry is in the basement of each building. Each unit varies in updating/flooring/etc. The one downside is that the a/c and heat are operated by the building at large, meaning that when Oct. 1 comes around, the a/c is turned off no matter what. The gym serves its purpose but is not 24 hours. My commute is super easy to campus and I've stayed here all three years!

Great for grad student living
GW medical student renting an apartment at River Place from a private landlord. Overall fantastic value for a studio in the DC area, especially with fairly inexpensive parking options available through private landlords or management companies. 5 mins from Rosslyn metro, overall ~15 mins door to door to Foggy Bottom. Fairly quiet community. Building is older but well maintained; management is responsive to concerns. Units are owned by individual landlords or management companies (I found mine on Craigslist); overall management of the building is done centrally through a co-op owners association. Concierge that receives packages in the lobby. Free gym and outdoor pool in the complex as long as you register with your building for $20. Laundry in the basement. All utilities included except cable/internet. As is usually the case with many older residential buildings in a big city environment, I have had pest issues once - however it was handled swiftly by my landlord and building management and I have not had a recurrence. Certainly not a luxury living complex, but for a student, and especially one that has a car, it is an unbeatable value for the area.

Great location, Old apartment but value for money

Great for the price and location
River Place is a Co-Op. Each unit is independently owned and operated, so each unit will vary. West is the best, since you can control the temperature, you don't have that option in north south or east. 5 mins from GUTS Rosslyn and 30 mins from campus by foot.

Good location by public transit
River Place has quite a lot of nice amenities (beautiful pool, renovated gym, renovated laundry room, front-desk package service). It's a condo building so everyone has different landlords, and who you get really makes a difference. I was luck and got a good landlord and a nice, sunny, quiet apartment.
The neighborhood is also getting better. There aren't many food places open after work hours, the area now has a Target and several casual food places (ex: District Taco) have moved in or will move in soon. The big benefits for living in the area are the public transit (not just Rosslyn metro but all the buses that come through here) and the jogging and biking trails.

Unparallelled convenience at below-market rates!
River Place offers below-market rents in a Virginia gated community with substantial amenities -- on site dry cleaner, salon, and market, swimming pool, gym, and plenty of parking for renters. However, there is no guest parking anywhere in the complex. The buildings are old (1954) but well-maintained. Heating and air-conditioning is individually controlled in the West building but units become overheated for my taste. However, the windows open to vent excess heat. Ventilation other than the windows is poor (there are ventilation shafts but they are inadequate for much cooking activity). Appliances are adequate. Units can be smaller than competitive units. All of this is offset by an incredibly convenient location -- walkable to and from campus across Key Bridge, also a few blocks from GUTS shuttle and Metro -- excellent security, available enclosed parking, and of course way-below-market rents. Overall, an excellent bargain if you don't require posh digs or a raucous night life..

Amazing location in Rosslyn
Great location! Really close to Georgetown making the commute super convenient. Quiet and homely neighborhood. Safeway and CVS are really close along with other eateries like Chipotle, Cosi, Panera bread, etc. Building complex has a great gym. Rent is slightly on the higher side

Rosslyn Reviews
However, this has been a business district for ages. There is very little going on around here and many of the restaurants don’t even open on the weekends. But, that’s changing. So stay tuned!
(Also, I like living in Virginia because my vote counts for more here!)
If you have long legs, renting a bike is an option. If you are like me and 5'1'', renting a bike is an option for downhill rides.
There is a lot within walking distance in Rosslyn (think 20 min average from my apt): Barnes and Noble, shopping, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's (also on the Arlington loop shuttle from GU), public libraries, CVS, Target, Safeway, lots of restaurants.
Also close to dense populations of immigrant communities if you like Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean food.
Cons: Neighborhood shuts down after 5pm. Few restaurants in the neighborhood itself (this is getting better though). Concrete canyon effect because of the skyscrapers. Closest grocery store is an expensive Safeway.
