Rosslyn

Rosslyn is a newly renovated business and residential hub with easy accessibility and few popular restaurants, cafes and nightclubs. History, art and music fanatics never feel out of place with The Iwo Jima Memorial, the Artisphere houses and the Rosslyn Jazz festival in the area which hold several events to keep the neighborhood lively and cheerful.

It's the closest Virginia neighborhood to downtown DC with high rise office buildings that form a skyline opposite the national mall along the Potomac River. Reviewers claim it's extremely safe and has easy access to both DC & greater Nova.

Rosslyn — 8.1/10 Rating (based on 52 neighborhood reviews)
The neighborhood is extremely safe and well-lit - you will never feel scared walking home at night or anything like that. You will be walking distance to Safeway and Target. There are also plenty of casual restaurants and coffee shops: Panera, Starbucks, Cosi, Chop't (salads), Sweetgreen (salads), Little Beet (healthy food), District Taco. The Rosslyn Metro and DC Circulator are in this neighborhood and can take you anywhere in DC that you need to go. The Rosslyn GUTS bus is also right near the Metro stop and takes you to the Georgetown campus.

There's things to do in Courthouse, but it's never too crazy. It's conveniently located to get into the city, and specifically to Georgetown, without paying DC rent and is great to be on a metro line. There's plenty of parking, a great Saturday morning farmer's market, and is just generally a nice place to live.

Mostly businesses. Pretty much dead on the weekend. Very close to a lot of fun bars, restaurants and places to hang out just up the road in courthouse and clarendon!
Biggest benefit is a short walk into Georgetown (another great neighborhood). There are tons of pets in the neighborhood but not in my complex. They aren't allowed in RiverPlace!

Historically commercial district, does not feel particularly residential although that is improving, and there are a number of apartments in the area. Pros: I feel safe walking home alone at night. Very close to metro, easy commute to GW. Cons: Not a huge wealth of restaurants, bars, or stores in the immediate neighborhood. Most places close by 10pm.

Rosslyn is so close to DC, while still having a quieter vibe and cheaper rent than the district proper. There are plenty of restaurants & grocery stores. Only thing that's missing in the area is a proper neighborhood bar. Sometimes, the bar options can feel a little too similar to suburban chains. The neighborhood has a very active community as well, especially in the summer. There are outdoor movies, jazz festivals, arts & crafts festivals, etc.

The area is very safe and close to many stores and restaurants but the community is defined by white privilege. There is not much character to the area and it is difficult to find interesting people around. I absolutely LOVE that I'm within walking distance of a Trader Joe's. I wish there was more interesting cuisine and nightlife though. Nightlife in the area is an extension of immature fratty college life.

GU student notes: There are two shuttles that run through this area, one that runs 1x a hour around Arlington during rush hours, and one that runs every 10min during rush hour and 20 during off hours. There is no easy access to campus on the weekends so be prepared to UBER.

If you have long legs, renting a bike is an option. If you are like me and 5'1'', renting a bike is an option for downhill rides.

There is a lot within walking distance in Rosslyn (think 20 min average from my apt): Barnes and Noble, shopping, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's (also on the Arlington loop shuttle from GU), public libraries, CVS, Target, Safeway, lots of restaurants.

Also close to dense populations of immigrant communities if you like Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean food.

Pros: Close to Metro station with three metro lines, new Target nearby, close to several jogging and biking trails and parks, walkable to Georgetown restaurants

Cons: Neighborhood shuts down after 5pm. Few restaurants in the neighborhood itself (this is getting better though). Concrete canyon effect because of the skyscrapers. Closest grocery store is an expensive Safeway.

We love Courthouse because you have easy access to metro and so many other immensities in close walking distance. The Saturday farmer's market is wonderful, and lots of new restaurants and businesses have moved in over the last year. If you're looking for something a little quieter than Clarendon with the same access to metro and restaurants Courthouse is a great choice.

I love it - it is right by Clarendon, which is a central area for bars and restaurants in Arlington. It is about 12 minute walk to the Rosslyn GUTS bus and a short uber into the heart of DC. About 1 minute walk to the Courthouse metro which is only one stop from Rosslyn and 2 stops from DC. Great restaurants and bars nearby, plus a ton of good shopping in the area. Great place to have a family and experience both DC and Arlington.
