A great affordable living space that is a 17-minute drive from campus.
I live on the third floor of a red lion building. there is free parking available for all residents and guests. There is paid parking under a shelter (I believe its $30 a month, might be handy during snowfalls/hail). They allow pets. Unfortunately, they do not have elevators available so accessibility might be an issue depending on you (the stairs are very short however). All utilities except electricity is included, and they do offer free community wide wifi, however it is veryyy slow so I gave up and got my own plan. They have a free coffee machine available 24/7 and my unit has its own in unit washer dryer which is why its pricier. If youre fine without a washer dryer, and a smaller space (mine is 744 sq ft), you can get units for much cheaper (under 1k). The neighbors are great, no one is loud and I think the units themselves are good at containing noise. Maintenance responds quickly and so does management. Right next to downtown ypsi so lots to do. Lowkey I do wish I lived closer since UMich doesn't have close by med student parking. I have a 17 minute commute, then I need to park in the commuter lots which is about a 10-minute bus ride from our library/med buildings. It doesn't matter much in 1st year since most things aren't required and you only have to be on campus max 3 times a week but keep it in mind for year 2 imo.

The Red Lion
Pros
-Can afford to live alone
-Pets allowed
-Very small deposit ($99)
-In-unit laundry
-Dishwasher
-Amazing maintenance team, very fast response
-Close to coffee shops
Cons
-Need to commute to AA
-Still expensive
-Not much natural light
-Cannot sublease
-No on-site recycling
-Very expensive to break the lease
-Top hot in the winter (building heat is very high, if you run cold this might be a bonus!)
They have cheaper apartments once you start giving up amenities like in-unit laundry.
