Decent

Good place to live, cheap and good location. Management needs to be pushed to do things sometimes, but its a good unit and ideal for law school.

Great bargain in Mount Vernon

If you are looking for a luxury place, this is not it. It is a little rough around the edges, but it is nowhere near as bad as reviews on some other websites suggest. I almost didn't look here because of bad reviews I found, but the reviews were mostly several years old, so I gave it a chance. I don't doubt that there were problems here in the past, but I am thoroughly satisfied. I have a decent size studio for $765 and for another $120 I get a private, sheltered, and secure parking space! I have a great view from the 10th floor looking west. There are a lot of 1 and 2 bedroom units with balconies, and the ones facing south have outstanding views of downtown. I have had a good experience with both maintenance in management. My one criticism of management is that the office and front desk people take random holidays, and this can cause a problem with getting packages. However overall, as a student on a budget, I think this is an unbeatable value and location.

There isn’t too much near by in comparison to other locations in Baltimore, but it is in the middle of the city so it is easy to get places. There isn’t a grocery store nearby, which is probably the biggest con.
UMd Police presence is fairly high, so the area feels reasonably safe. Fairly well lit, and fairly heavily traveled given its location with UB and UMd.
Have only been offered crack once in two years.
It’s a really nice area and is walking distance to a lot of different things. But once you go outside the area it can get a little sketchy
Good bar/restaurant scene, right next to the train/bus station. Some crime but can't help that.
Love how historic it is
Midtown/ Mt Vernon is a very active neighborhood in Baltimore. Artscape is held annually here, and there is regularly activities going on. It very common to see people out and about at all hours. Its situated around several colleges and universities. The real con to the neighborhood, is the lack of viable options for grocery shopping. You must travel to another neighborhood to shop which means more often than not you need to utilize a car. Zipcar is available in many locations.
Mt Vernon is a safe neighborhood with some of the best bars/restaurants of Baltimore (including Brewers Art, The Owl Bar, etc.). It really "feels" like a neighborhood. Main problem: no decent grocery stores on walking distance. Eddies is a disgrace of low quality produce and whole foods-like prices, so you really need a car to do grocery shopping.
This is a fairly safe and clean neighborhood. I checked the Sun's murder and rat complaint maps, and this area has little of either. Eddies of Mount Vernon is an OK grocery store, but I wouldn't go there for everything.
