Jefferson Marketplace

I love Jefferson marketplace because of its proximity to school and layout. I was able to have an office in my apartment and that really has helped with studying.

Great location, amenities, appliances, community events, service

Jefferson Marketplace has a great location in the Shaw neighborhood, surrounded by restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and two minutes away from a grocery store. It's also surrounded by residential neighborhoods which are cute. It's about a 10 minute walk to the closest Metro (yellow/green line), which makes my commute to GW Law about 35 minutes walking, 20 minutes scootering, or 5 minutes biking. The building has a great gym, rooftop grill area, and pool during the summer. My apartment, a junior one bedroom, is perfectly sized for one person and has huge windows with great sunlight. The apartment is pretty new so the appliances (laundry machines, stove, etc.) are all new and in good shape. The building hosts community events about 3x per month and often has free food and drinks. Maintenance is very quick if there is anything wrong. There is also an Amazon locker package pickup and a laundry locker so both are super convenient. And there are a lot of dogs!
As for downsides, my building faces 7th Street which can at times be loud, I've had issues with one person in the leasing office twice, and there have recently been car break-ins on 8th street. The building has a garage and I don't feel unsafe, despite the slight rise in crime.

Jefferson Marketplace

I love Jefferson. Price is a little steep, but the best deal for apartments (vs renting a room). Apt is very spacious and in a great location for school.

Good Amenities but high prices and questionable management

I love the location- right tin Shaw and new retail opening up all around. The area isn't the safest, but having the doorman and security helps. the building's amenities are nice, but not over the top. The apartment itself is great- very modern and spacious. The rent is high considering the area and the level of amenities. Additionally, the management team is nice but not very professional. Things likes incorrect charges on bills or issues with the building are not handled promptly.

Melissa

I love the layout of the kitchen and living room-- and the size of the bathroom-- but this apartment is way too small (square footage) for the price. There is little/no storage or closet space, and the bedroom can barely fit a Queen bed and dresser. The floor looks nice at first, but upon second glance is cheaply laid laminate that peels up in sections. Not worth the $3.50/sq foot (includes parking and pet rent). The management staff have been hit or miss. I have recently had some great interactions, but also had some pretty crappy interactions in the past. I would not re-sign for another year.

Brand new apartment with management flaws

I like this apartment a lot. We have a beautiful terrace, rooftop pool, gym, etc. However, management isn't great at keeping things in order at all. Broken lights in the hallway will stay unfixed for months. The firepit on the terrace has been out of order for at least a month thus far. The management doesn't do anything *special* for the residents in terms of monthly events for socialization. The appliances are shoddy, the bike storage is an extra $15 a month, etc. Now, it's nice, but for the amount that one pays to live in a "luxury" apartment, you might want to try elsewhere. The huge bonuses are living in between 2 metro stops and a block from giant.

Great location, nice amenities

I'm pretty happy living here. The location is fantastic, a block from Shaw Metro station, close to tons of bars and restaurants, lots of buses and bike lanes. The building amenities are nice, there's a small swimming pool on the roof and a terrace overlooking the city with nice views that doesn't get too crowded (usually).

Good value for area

Building is cheaper than others across the street. Overall quality is okay, but it's new so very few maintenance issues, and the maintenance department is responsive. Leasing office is not very professional.

I would recommend to people looking in DC

Great area and lovely building!

I love the front desk staff and the building maintenance staff is prompt and very helpful. The apartments have great views and are spacious. Utilities are not included, which is definitely a downside. Residents pay electric and water.

Shaw Reviews

Easy walking to restaurants around 14th street and nice neighborhoods to take a stroll through.
Very vibrant part of town, with a lot of young professionals. There is a lot to do in the neighborhood from restaurants, bars, and even workout studios/gyms. There is so much within walking distance, and there are two metro stops also within walking distance. It is very convenient especially if you are a Howard student. You really couldn’t be in a better neighborhood than U Street corridor and the Shaw District.
The Shaw neighborhood has a lot of history and culture in it. They have done a ton of remodeling old buildings. Lots of restaurants and bars (especially outdoor areas for covid times) with a varied range of upscale/foodie restaurants to divey bars.
great so far. great location -- right by shaw metro station, giant grocery store, great restaurants & stores & nightlife. 5 minute walk to u street, and logan circle which is great.
The only thing we're missing are fast-casual restaurants less than 5 minutes walking distance away, but coming from New York, I know that's a high expectation.
Near 14th and U streets, which have lots of awesome bars, shops, and restaurants and a mile from the White House.
great place to live. so many bars and new restuarants popping up. also close to sooo many ethiopian restaurants which is awesome. great coffee, right next to the metro which is super convenient. close to everything really! takes less than 10 minutes to get the 14th st. only a few blocks to U street, and 15 min walk to columbia heights/dupont!
Great restaurants and bars. In the middle of nightlife and right by the school
